EdgeGamers New Identity

<div style="width: 500px; text-align: center" align="center">We are very excited to present eGO's new logo to the community. This has been a project the Community Manager team has been working with Versed on over the past few weeks. The final product can be seen across the board on all of our Social Media services and will be added to our website in the coming days.

The icon itself spells out EDGE and has a star in the middle to bring the brand together. The star has been a part of EdgeGamers Organization since the start and it only made sense to add it in. The shape is modeled after our tags =(eGO)= to keep that consistent feel without current members and audiences feeling we detracted from our roots.

We will be releasing a kit to our members in the coming weeks to allow everyone access to our new logo.

There is voting for major organizations, it is done by the shareholders/owners and technically by the consumers' money.

Please site examples and source please. I have been doing this for a very long time, and I've never, ever, ever heard of shareholders voting on the identity of a company or organization. The decision is always either a board of select members (much like we have now) or the sole decision of the owner themselves.

All these opinions and comments, all so negative. We're all here for one reason, we like to game and we want a secure gaming community, so what if the logo changes. Does that change our common purpose of being here?

I am using "Substantial Changes" as an argument.

"making substantial changes in the corporation's operations."

While I understand the point you are trying to make, it does clearly state that the changes are to operations. That's too vague to classify operations as branding or identity.

Anyway, to keep myself from getting in any sort of trouble over the issue, I will not continue to respond to comments about what should or should not have been done.

For those who like it, I'm super glad. Enjoy. For those who don't, I'm sorry and I hope it grows on you. :)

A logo doesn't have to include a corporation's name. It's as simple as that. It's quite the change, making our name not the focus of our logo but our tag instead, but we need to internalize it first before we make any good judgments over its implementation.

I have a few gripes with this new logo, though. One is a stylistic change: The star in the middle looks a little small to be in the center of the logo.

The other, however, is a matter of consistency.

This logo, by itself, looks clean, prim, and minimalist, and for that, I personally like it. But, before implementing it on the masses, we need to consider the overall look of where it would be applied. Our Facebook and Twitter pages are safe from this; there's little stylistic changes to be made, and the design they present by default already goes well with our logo.

Our website, however, is different. Our overall design on our site is very conservative: Curved edges on boxes, lots of stuff on the home page, and not to mention our banner at the top... one of my friends finds these design choices "so 1993." Smacking this new logo on the home page would look inconsistent at best.

So, from how I see it, we have two options if we want this logo on our home page. One, we leave everything as is, and only use this logo on our social networks (thinking about this further, people drawn to our website via our networks would be misled by its minimalist appeal, I'm sure). Two, we somehow adapt the entire page to accommodate to the new feeling this logo provides it. Otherwise, our home page would look strange, and could draw away people who don't like its inconsistency.

Eh. My two cents.

Personally, I enjoy the new logo. If you do want to find the word edge, you can. And even if you don't, I like the fact that if you rotate the logo 180 degrees around the star without moving the star, it turns out to be the same thing. I realize there was some major news this last meeting, but I think embracing the new logo is the best -- We have to trust in our leaders.

But no seriously... no matter what the change is .. someone will like it.. someone will hate it...
People basically don't like change.
I remember seeing the same exact posts when I created the last logo. You all will get used to it.. then you'll hate the next logo in a year or two.. LOL
;)

Hahaha so true. I remember not liking it at first but like all changes you get used to them. This one I think is pretty neat because I actually see it as simple and I prefer matte finishes to glossy finishes. My only question is will this be used for forum tags or will those stay the same?

Haven't been part of the community for a while, but I think this new logo points towards a new direction for eGO. I still think the logo needs a bit more work and I hope you keep evolving it.

Also good luck LOL Division hope to see you climb the rungs in S5 !

I was a little put off at first and confused a bit, but after reading Versed's explanation of why he did it that way - I can see it and understand the idea behind it.

Even if I am not 100% "feeling it" I know I will in time and it is definitely a mostly unique idea :)

I did google search and this one:

edge-logo.jpg

was close in the fact their Es were reversed, but you are correct in nobody else also made their D and G backwards.

For now anyway...let's see if an edge company follows suit after this xD

Can't edit sorry for double post*

one E was reversed, not both. Bad explanation on my end :p

Also - THANK YOU versed for what I am sure, took you a long time to come up with and put a lot of work into :)

Not a huge fan of the new logo. Every time I look at it, the two "E" letters in it make me think of wings. The old logo was honestly better. This one just doesn't work for me.
