http://www.edge-gamers.com/article/welcome-to-our-new-site/

We have been working hard the past few months to overhaul the way you connect with EdgeGamers. Today, we have released our brand new website powered by WordPress. It was definitely time for an update and this one comes just in time for EdgeGamers’ next birthday. All of the great content from our forums has been brought over to this site. With that, you can expect some changes to our forums coming very soon.

Now it is time to take a look around our new site and explore what’s new. Keep checking back daily as we'll continue to roll out new content. If you see something that we may have missed or just seems out of place, don’t hesitate to let us know. Toss a thread in our Drop Box on the forums with as much info as possible and we will take a look into it.

Be sure to leave a comment here on this post letting us know what you think on the new look. We’d love to see your feedback. Comments on our new site are managed through your Steam account – so simply use the login button below to throw a comment in. If you currently do not have a Steam account, I assure you that it is fairly painless to setup, and you can do that from this page HERE.

Finally, I want to send a huge thank you to our Technical team for making this project possible. Without their expertise and dedication we would not have been able to make this huge leap.

Now seriously go have a look around.

Pros
- Better for mobile users.

Cons
- Feels very clunky to use.
- Needs better design, banner takes up way to much space... the hole screen is covered when entering the page

Can you explain a little more on the clunky con?

Needs better design, what are you recommendations?

It isn't following basic website design principles.

- Top left corner gets the attention first

Look at our current design. Logo up in the left corner, eye goes down to pm box and website navigation. Designed to draw the eye to the navigation bars on the left and on the top right.
Lets take a look at the new page. You will actually not see the big logo in the middle of the page first. They eye will go to the top left. Small eGO logo and some navigation bars.

- Left side of the page gets more attention that the right.

Right now we use the left side perfectly with our navigation bars, Monthly Giveaways etc. Let's take a look at the left side on the new page... nothing... empty. We have to look at the right side for info.

- First impressions take less than a second.

Current homepage does this well. They eye picks up vital info and sees alot of interesting things to look at. Makes the user want to look at more.
The new page does not. A very bland big blue screen with little text. Not much going on.

Green is where the eye looks first, yellow second and then red.

Recommendations:

- The fact that the top navigation follows when you scroll is good. Keep that.
- Try integreating more of the old design in to the new one.
- That banner has to go.... covers the hole screen/website.
- Test the points I pointed out. Look at our current website and then at our new one. What feels more natural?

Why don't you draw a mock up of what the landing page should look like. Honestly everything you said I honestly don't think the average user is thinking that. I honestly think it's pretty simplistic.

I'll have to agree with GGVW here on this one. I think a lot of the users are like FORUMS, and thats it.

So wait..the forums are being moved to WordPress now or just the front page/news and nav-bar items?

Either way, looks interesting!

Glad to see my opinion on the "see more" button and banner size was heard. Looks great! Can't wait to see more content :) Keep up the great work!

The full width header will return when important content needs to be spotlighted. Our upcoming Zombies event in Battlefield is a good example.
