This is more for admins who need to get proof for things without going to gameme - or if gameme is unavailable - but other players can also find a use for this. This can be used for most valve made source games.
This will create a permanent log of anything that goes into console into the respective game folder. It basically replaces typing condump into console to dump a text log of console and can give you insight on errors reported into console just before a crash.
For csgo, it will go into this folder : Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo as a text file under the name console.log.
It doesn't log anything that is not output into console. For cs:go, this includes : kill notices, player disconnects, admin messages. and admin commands. You will need to manually keep a log of them if you require it. These are logged into console for cs:s, so they will be kept in the text file accordingly. Since it is always logging, it does not have the problem of the condump command being unable to log text that is no longer displayed in console.
The log will need to be purged every few weeks/months depending on how often console messages are received. After 3 months, the console logs I have are generally 20mb in size. Saved on a hard drive, this could result in the file taking a fair amount of time to open. Rename the file or delete it if is no longer needed to force the game to create a new log file on startup.
-novid is another useful launch option as it will disable the intro videos in source games.
