There has been much controversy surrounding the Mare's Leg, whether or not it is a sidearm, whether or not it is a revolver, whether or not it is a shotgun.

I'm here to squash all of that and let you know what this weapon truly is.

The Mare's Leg is just a name of a very specific rifle given to Steve McQueen's character on the television series Wanted: Dead or Alive. The actual weapon is a Winchester Model 1892 with a shortened barrel and stock.

It was designed in 1958, only 3 were manufactured in 1958 and another 2 (speculated) in 1993. The length of this gun was less than 2 feet (or 61 cm). The length of the barrel is less than 12 inches (or 20 cm).

It is not a pistol.

It is not a revolver.

It is not a shotgun.

It is a lever-action rifle with a 6-round tubular magazine.

Now I get people will argue that the tubular magazine will classify this weapon as a revolver, but this isn't the case at all. The definition of this states: "A tubular magazine is a gun or firearm magazine that is, in essence, a tube. Ammunition is stacked end-to-end when loaded into a tubular magazine."

Why DICE ever decided to put in a weapon into the game when only 5 (speculated) exist in the world is beyond me... but it IS a lever-action rifle, nothing more, nothing less.

But if you're on the 60hz server while it is "revolver only", the mare's leg is prohibited.

its for sure not a revolver anyone should be able to see that. dice did however put it in the pistol section so in a pistol only situation its allowed. the 60hz is revolver knife, defib anything beyond that should follow the w/k/b policy.

Those that claim that this was a revolver shouldn't be playing Battlefield.

Also, all allowed weapons on the 60Hz should be defined, because they are not. I'm told revolvers only. Then told revolvers, knives, defibs, repair tool only. You say "revolver knife, defib". I get killed by an incendiary grenade and people using flash. Flash isn't allowed, flash and smoke is allowed. Then told no grenades. No one will make up their mind on it, so I won't be playing on it.

I still want a Henry Arms 30/30 or 45/70 Lever Action Rifle. It would be utterly pointless, but why argue about having the original cowboy guns? I mean we have the Phantom Bow for pete's sake

For your information, having a 12" barrel by definition makes the "Mare's Leg" a pistol. As for only 5 ever being produced, might want to check this link http://www.rossiusa.com/product-list.cfm?category=17, may be more than 5 floating around.

any melee is allowed with the revolver...anything other than that is not allowed. no grenades , launchers, smoke, nuclear weapons and so on.

Was someone actually saying... Nevermind, I'm not surprised... Now can you do my Molot Vyatskie Vepr so that people will know it's not an ak, it's actually an rpk? Pretty please? I hate being called an AK guy... I'm squad auto weap man!

In the 1950-60s the MOLOT factory was the only producer of the 9mm Stechkin automatic pistols APS, 7.62mm Kalashnikov light machine guns RPK and 30mm automatic grenade launchers Plamya AGS-17, which were highly recognized for their outstanding quality and reliability.

RPK:

Operating mechanism

The RPK functions identically to the AK-47. It also uses the same 7.62?39mm ammunition. It has a similar design layout to the AKM and AK-47 series of rifles, with modifications to increase the RPK's effective range and accuracy, enhance its sustained fire capability, and strengthen the receiver.
Features

Most notably, the RPK has a heavier and longer barrel than an AKM. This allows the RPK to fire for extended periods of time without major loss in accuracy due to the barrel heating up. The chrome-lined barrel is permanently fixed to the receiver, and cannot be replaced in the field. It is fitted with a new front sight base, gas block (lacks the bayonet lug) and an under-barrel cleaning rod guide. The barrel also features a folding bipod, mounted near the muzzle, and a front sight base with a lug that limits the bipod's rotation around the axis of barrel. The barrel's muzzle is threaded, enabling the use of muzzle devices such as flash hiders, compensators, and blank-firing adapters. When a muzzle device is not being used, the threads on the muzzle can be covered by a thread protector. The barrel is pinned to the receiver in a modified trunnion, reinforced by ribbing, and is slightly wider than the trunnion used on standard AKM type rifles. Symmetrical bulges on both sides of the front trunnion ensure proper fit inside the receiver.

The RPK's U-shaped receiver is stamped from a smooth 1.5 mm (0.06 in) sheet of steel (compared to the 1.0 mm (0.04 in) sheet metal receiver used on standard AKM rifles). Interchangeability of parts between the RPK and AKM is moderate.

The RPK uses a modified AKM recoil spring assembly. It consists of a rear spring guide rod from the AK, and a new forward flat guide rod and coil spring.

The RPK features a thick laminated wood foregrip, and a fixed laminated wood "club-foot" buttstock, similar to the stock used on the RPD, which is designed to allow the user to fire from the prone position more comfortably. The RPK uses a standard AKM pistol grip.

The weapon can use standard AKM detachable box magazines, but is most commonly used with a 40-round box magazine, or a 75-round drum magazine.
Sights

The weapon's rear sight leaf is elevation adjustable, and graduated for ranges of 100 to 1,000 meters, in 100 m increments. The rear sight leaf also features a windage adjustment knob, unique to the RPK series of rifles.
Accessories

Supplied with the RPK are: spare magazines, a cleaning rod, cleaning kit (stored in a hollowed compartment in the buttstock), a sling, oil bottle and magazine pouches (a single-pocket pouch for a drum magazine or a 4-pocket pouch for box magazines).

I don't care what DICE classified it as.

It's not a pistol. It doesn't even load like one.

and i do know the material, i looked it up.

perhaps try not schooling someone in a negative tone next time?

I suppose the Volcanic pistols were not pistols either? http://www.leverguns.com/leverguns/volcanic_pistol.htm Becase they didn't load like a pistol. Although a revolver does not load like a pistol either since you insert cartridges into the cylinder of a revolver and insert a loader magizine or clip, depending of design, into a pistol and then charge it, or chamber a round, by moving the bolt to the rear and having it force the first round from the magazine into the chamber.
Also by law any weapon that is designed to fire a single projectile that has a barrel less than sixteen inches (16") is classified as a pistol.

Also, I fully agree with this statement.

Hey guys... I got a new pistol... wanna jump on the 60hz server so I can try it out? check this bad boy out!!

It's a saw'd-off rifle bored out to be a shotgun then classified as a pistol for the new conceal carry laws. Conspiracy theorists say it was inserted into the game after 911 in attempts to fuel the online mega-war between Activison and EA. A representative was stated saying, "Our forum trolls are much hungrier and more advanced than yours."

I love you Tipton!!!! XD That was awesome, I'm going to read this everytime someone calls my rpk and ak! Seriously though, this thing is soooo heavy compared to a standard akm... It's worth it though, when you get into the sub 200 plus 200 round heat... Check out my rifle in a youtube video called ak meltdown revisited. 865 fully auto dump from drum after drum until it melted... He whacks the barrel on a table to straighten the gas tube, loads up a 75 round drum, dumps it, and the barrel is straightened up by the action of dumping those rounds again... Broken and fixed by it's own ammunition... This is the reliability poster boy!!!

After the series Fire Fly and the movie Serenity, the character Zoe carried the weapon and it started a market for it. Rossi started making them and selling them to people eighteen (18) years of age. ATFaE took them to federal court and damn near put them out of business for selling pistols to persons under the age of twenty-one (21) years of age. After being unable to demonstrate the ability to fire the weapon from the shoulder and it being by statute, barrel length under sixteen inches (16") and an overall length under twenty six inches (26") and designed to be fired by hand, that is was ruled a pistol. Rossi paid a hefty fine and reclassified the weapon as a pistol to all it's distributors so it could continue to sell the product. When Majeye posted the picture in his first post with the badge and knife, the weapon in the picture is a Rossi reproductiion. That is why I made the post when he was so definitive about only perhaps five (5) ever being made. That is also why I said "if you are going to teach a lesson, know the material".
