Bad Company 2 Server Issues

Returned to play after a few days just to see this:

Some of the most popular servers down. 30 players combined on all online servers. Haven't tried with all, but seems that some of those that actually are online you cannot connect to. Wonder what's going on...

Last night there was a large set of windows updates which may have knocked the server offline for a period of time before it was restarted. If there are any other issues please let us know. The server is up and running fine and is currently full.

Early this morning(8am Eastern) I was unable to get a connection to any server. I played for a while after finally getting on. Now(2:30pm Eastern) I can see that the server is populated but I get the same "No Connection" available for many BC2 servers as well as ours.

!!!And just like that(2:34pm) I'm on our server !!!

I can't tell if the server is down, or if it's connection issues on my part. Is the server up?

According to GameMe, The server is up; it shows up in my favorites list as well, so it must be a connection issue on your part.

It's a connection issue on the part of at least several of us, it started happening this morning and continues. Cannot connect to any BC2 server "at all times", can at sometimes! I've been online in the server today and also not be able to get in, same for others. Some servers show up on list in normal black font others, including ours as grey. I understand that the server is up, it does show on GameMe. I can check online awards and such, just a connect to server problem. I'm not having any other problems, nothing has been changed.

Do you have your game through steam or origin? If through Origin then right click on the game and click repair game. If through steam ensure its up to date.

Some others have suggested reinstalls with specific instructions using the old files:

Check your filters

Possible fix!

If any of your filter options conflict with your Favorite/History server lists then it will gray them out. You need to adjust your filter options, or just turn of off, to play your servers. Really stupid really, Filter options should ignore the Favorite list.

Verify Game Cache:

Try verifying game cache.
Library > game >Right click > properties > local files > verify.

This issue seems to be common with BC2 players. It could be that the IP or information has changed. You might have to also check to see the main list and add it again to the favorites

Arg/ tried all the above and no dice. then rebooted and im in. weirdness. thanks all

Well at least something worked out of the whole mess LOL. Glad your back in the game. Let us know if you have any other problems

DarkRaven, I did all the things you listed, thought that it worked after getting in twice in a row but last time I tried, I got the same No Connection for any server. Just exiting the game and starting it again until I can get in seems the best way for me and the frustration that goes along with that.

It can't be all of our computers/connections. Slick, the same thing is happening to me. It's gotta be something with Steam, etc.

There's really bad lag on the server this morning. The worst I've ever seen and it's affecting everyone that joins. So bad it drove people off the game.I was just on all alone and almost got hit by my own rockets when flying!

From what I'm hearing, this is the game itself. Players can't see servers at times, servers lag, etc. The lag is something that is going to have to be dealt with and just have to play with it. A server restart MIGHT help, but it probably won't. If you don't see servers up, or they have 0/32, restart your game and they should pop up. If they don't, try again. If it still doesn't work, wait a few minutes and try again. This is the only solution I've been able to come up with. Restarting my game seems to bring up the servers once I log back in.

I've talked to many BFBC2 players and they are all having the same issue, so it isn't just us. It is a lot, if not all the player base, in BFBC2, that is having this problem.

The question is guys we know what map it's on but what times are these issues occurring? This would give us a better idea of what is going on. We will restart the server and plugins this week to see if any improvement

The connection problem is happeneing throughout the day. I get on around 8am and and sometimes again later in the am as well as early afternoon(eastern), late afternoon and evenings. I see the problem all the time, restarting the game as many as 4-5 times depending.

Lag was extremely bad early Sunday morning, it literally drove everyone including myself out of the server. It was thought that a couple of high pinger's were causing the problem, after kicking a couple of afk's and with the high ping players gone the few of us still in were all seeing lapses bad enough to hurt our eyes. Lag was unapparent later in the day.

Not sure if it may help or not, but when I was active in BC2 awhile ago another O mentioned a fix for a pingspike issue I was having at the time where if your router/modem supports it, enabling DMZ Hosting helps, and then you can disable it when you finish playing.

Although looking at the last couple posts on here, I'm guessing this is more of a game/EA issue..?

Hello everyone,

I have restarted the server this morning to reduce the lag. Please post here if you are having issues and have those others having issues to post here. As mentioned before we need to know what times of day the server is lagging to see if anything was happening at that time. Please provide as much information as you can such as how long was the lag spike, did you get disconnected, was others having the same issue, were you downloading anything, was severe weather in your area, were you in a vehicle on the server, and just anything that could be helpful to figure out issues. Each player at some point regardless of internet connection will experience lag whether from updates, provider issues, game issues, and other reasons. We would like to have those having issues do a tracert from your computer to the server ip to see if there are any issues in between causing your problem as well.
