eGO's server is probably the most popular of those left for BFBC2. There's still a bunch of conquest servers out there but they're never populated anymore...outside of Old Men Gaming with Harvest Day and (can't rmember the clan) with Atacama, and Cops might fill up once in while too. So really...maybe there's a few hundred people playing the game anymore, a thousand at the outside? Good guess? It's been over a year since the stats sites have been able to update.
So where do all the new players go when there's a Steam sale? We all see the wave. I mean, when you get a game for five bucks, a lot of people really don't give a crap, but there's some new folks that come on that want to play like most of us do. When they're frustrated in their attempts, it becomes just another $5 game for them and we end up with griefers and rapers.
Where do they go when they have technical questions on how to play, or if they just want to be part of the community. They come here...but it's hard to find info on our game unless you know specifically where to look. Any posts in the BF2 thread get buried in a week or so.
I suggest we all become a little active in the forums. I don't mean writing full posts, unless you want to (I'm feeling the urge to blather a little, as you can tell), but commenting on at least one relevant thread a week. It doesn't matter how old it is as long as it's relevant. eg... you know of a post someone in 2012 wrote about how to use the AT to kill helos, or flying to avoid ATs, or something... that you found helpful at some time. Comment "I wrote/read this a while ago and found it helpful".
The effect will be that BF2 posts will stay visible and easy to find for first-time visitors to the site. Once they've found the one, it's easier to find more.
