Hello esteemed DODs community & Warren,

I've noticed recently that some players, mostly on the Axis side, will die and immediately jump into spectate mode and then rejoin their team seconds later. They repeat this behavior sometimes continually and sometimes intermittently but it does seem intentional.

Also the same players will die...then sometimes quit the game and immediately rejoin a few times over the course of an hour or so. Again, seems like intentional efforts related to being killed.

I'm sure there is some technical advantage to this behavior...so I would appreciate someone letting me know why this is occurring. Does it have something to do with rankings or points? Something seems strange about this. Maybe its always gone on or I've just noticed it or I'm just losing my mind slowly.

Also, I read some other forums and yes an increase in flag capture points would be good. Flag captures is the primary way I help my team but I die so often doing it.

This is known as stat padding and is cheating. If you see someone doing so, please submit a ban request and we can check into it there :)

Princess.
That is a good question, as Simon say's it is cheating, but when admins are playing it is hard to see it happening. I am fortunate I have good players on when I am on and they will draw my attention to it. Your other comment about the points I do feel dod needs some thing to breathe some live back into it, points for flags could help or a weapons update would be cool.

LONDON BLITZ

There is 1 player on the axis team who does it repeatedly. Every time I kill him, he leaves the server, and rejoins the server. However, in his defense, he does rejoin the server to reset his score, not to avoid death. As far as I can tell he never went disconnected to avoid death. Is this really against the rules? Because he is not stat-cheating, just trying to reset his score to 0 - 0.

I'm with you london, whenever I suggest a change of some sort,
I often get a "if its not broke, don't fix it" reply... but I don't think its a matter
of anything being broken, but just a matter of having a unique twist.

its like, i love vanilla ice cream, it might be my favorite flavor, but every now
and then, maybe throw in a few chocolate chips or mint, to give it a little extra flavor.

people don't often complain about subtle or positive changes. its radical or extreme changes
to something, that usually provides radical or extreme opposition.

in regards to Alicia, I haven't noticed too many spectator switchers and such, though I'm sure
it does happen from time to time. The other day... I did something similar, I played the game for
a little bit, and then I spectated to try to catch a player cheating.... because if a player is aware
you are spectating them, they will be less likely to cheat... this might be what you are seeing alicia
is other players switching to spec to try to catch a cheater.

When I did this, I actually got called out by a player, accusing me that I was using my knowledge
acquired during spectate, to pick off players. I can assure everyone that does not happen, I often
flip so fast between players that I don't acquire their positions, and even if I did, I would not
consciously use it against them. I am not responsible for how my subconscious utilizes the data, lol
but considering how frequently I die, it would probably be fair play anyways. lol

i think the player who suggested it was probably trolling me a little anyways, so i don't
give it too much thought.

i might add, we have had a slight uptick in cheating, (that has been addressed by leadership),
so the spectating intermittently coincides with what you might be seeing alicia.

anyways, good questions alicia!

Yep, some players leave to reset their score, others do it to find out the position of the person that killed them. I am not aware of a way that this would change the stats either, as they already died, so they should have already lost points, and the other person that killed them should have already gained points.

Thanks to each of you for the response(s). Next time I see this happen I will alert an admin. I hadn't noticed these types of methods before.

London says, "I am fortunate I have good players on when I am on and they will draw my attention to it." That is sweet London I will alert you for sure. :chair:

The only advantage I can think of is avoiding being dominated but in doing so they're also giving up dominating others so I'm not really sure it can be considered as an advantage maybe more like a usage

I cant believe people worry that much about points/stats etc -wow -play and have fun man

well I'm just curious why its stat padding and cheating, must be something I'm missing here because you don't get any points by going into specate mode or leaving the server and coming back. sometimes people have bad connections to..

so thats why I'm wondering how its cheating.

Generally people jumping into spec are avoiding deaths, dominations, or trying to restock ammo quickly without death. They've usually bound it and jump quickly with it, in order to keep points or improve their stats. This is generally what we see when someone is spec jumping or disconnecting like that.

Simon, this makes sense now. I recall someone also noticing and commenting about the player trying to restock grenades. Good information. Thank you
