Battlefield Division BF5 Reveal Discussion

Had a thread for this already but alrighty.

WWII. Woop!

Honestly i think the reveal trailer was just too much random stuff going on so you can't really see anything that is new and you just get trown off focus. But i am sure the gameplay will give us a much better idea of the potensial of the game, and i am really looking forward to that! So far its like a 6/10 for me.

I'm pretty excited.

I'm a classic conquest type of guy so personally I'm not a big fan on the war stories or operations. But they sound pretty interesting and exciting, nonetheless.

Money Stuff - it's good to hear that there will be no micro-transactions in BFV and it will be purely based off of skill and playtime. Additionally, it's awesome to no longer have to purchase a premium pass to play new DLC's and stuff that are coming out.

Fortifications - this will be neat in my opinion. Having the ability to build up fortifications and defend an area will, in fact, make the game more immersive. This may be one of the things I do when I get the opportunity to play the game.

The Company - this isn't particularly "new" considering you could always customize your weapons, skin, etc in some of the previous games. However, it looks like BFV will have much more options and ones that are awesome looking. It'll be interesting to see how this works out.

Destruction - in the reveal trailer, you watch bullets come flying through the wall, almost killing the guy running up the steps. Then, the tanks basically ram through the house like it's nothing. BF1 had pretty awesome level destruction but this seems even better in BFV.

Animations - it was mentioned during the discussions that explosions will actually throw your character back (even if you don't die). In addition, during the trailer ole' girl went flying backwards when she got shot after busting in the house. I'm curious to see if this will actually be a thing where when you get shot you stumble backwards or whatever. I also noticed in the trailer the characters would throw down their weapons. I'm curious if this is just effects for the trailer or if you'll be able to toss your weapon down and then pick it back up. In addition, there seems to be a variety of new animations (like laying down on your butt and spraying, the shhhhh animation, etc) which is expected out of a new Battlefield.

Vehicles - I'm not a big history guy so I don't know all the various vehicles from WWII. However, the ones shown in the trailer and in the concept art look sick. One of the ones that stood out to me was the AA gun trailer. That looks like it will be a lot of fun.

Missiles - near the end of the trailer, a missile comes in and blows up a bunch of people and blows the eyes of the trailer backwards. I wonder if this will be an ambient/ai thing or if it will be player controlled. Definitely interesting either way.

UI - very simple and doesn't take up a lot of the screen. The health bar is displayed at the bottom in the middle, which is different but I like it. The rest of the UI gives off a BF3/BFH feeling. Hopefully it stays this way all the way to launch.

Graphics - Game looks great based on the little clip included there, which is expected with the new Frostbite Engine of course.

Trailer - 9.5/10. Only thing I would've liked differently was some music. However, the lack of music let you enjoy all the sounds and character dialogue so it wasn't too bad. Lot's of action and things to interpret. I'd expect a whole bunch of videos from channels like Westie with lot's of nitpicking of interesting things that will be included in the game. Can't complain otherwise!

I'll reply or edit my post if there is any other pointers I have.

https://www.battlefield.com/buy/battlefield-5 < check out the two versions and prices here. Pretty typical prices. Honestly surprised considering they are getting rid of premium and micro-transactions.

Excited to fly the fighter planes. Not much to see honestly. Still could suck.

Edit: after watching a breakdown video i'm actually pretty excited. Lot of new stuff that this trailer doesn't capture.

I'd watch this video if I were you. Lot's of great information. I'm even more excited after watching it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4QxznFsdDg

And Beemer, they plastered Xbox with BF1 too. It's more than likely just a sponsorship (or whatever you wanna call it) type thing. I'm sure it will play great on PC still.

The hate for BFV on Reddit right now is amazing

It's actually pretty sad. I'm not sure where the transgender comments are coming from. I could understand frustrations about female combatants being in the game but it's a video game, what else do you expect?? Regardless, I don't understand the transgender comments one bit.

I'm excited regardless.

I'm waiting a day or so to pre order because as if right now, I can't get onto origin's website

I like what I'm seeing so far. As someone who is still playing a very very dated WW2 game (Day of Defeat: Source), I would love something new in that era! I'm hearing good things so far. If it has dedicated servers we can all hang out on, I'd be really excited. The price is a bit high for me currently, but I'd grab it probably a few months after release anyway - I'm always delayed haha.

I think a lot of the reddit hate (and I read a bunch of it) comes from the fact that people were looking for authenticity. They wanted a highly graphical WWII shooter with graphics that make your eyes pop out of your head, not a wacky hero-based game that takes pieces of other titles and mix them in. Yes, the trailer was scattered and packed with too much to really know what is going on, but, I think EA/DICE is attempting to make their own spin on WWII; perhaps a bunch of battles outside the normal theatres of war. Trying to jam pack this into a two-minute trailer is going to be near impossible. Almost an alternate reality with history mixed in, think the Wolfenstein series. I could be completely wrong on this, but, as of right now, I'm mixed on this entry.

Some key notes from the reveal stream

No More Premium Pass, all 'expansion packs' are free
No pay2win, unlock gameplay affecting things through playing the game, though suspiciously quiet on other microtransactions
Now get a toolkit so you can build fortifications on the battlefield, such as foxholes, sandbags
Co-Op is back
Operations are backed, called Grand Operations and take place over four 'days'.
Stated the game will at first focus on the 'Fall of Europe', but then only mentioned the ability to play as the British or Germans.
Higher calibre bullets, such as those from an MG42, will pass through walls.

I totally agree with the too much information in too little time. It took me 3 times to find all the game mechanics they mentioned during the stream

The sound of the weapons on the trailer was pretty much spot on. Dice's audio has always been top notch. The sound of the V1 at the end was amazing. Already pre-ordered.

So, running a potato Laptop that can only handle small bits of BF1, I am saddened by the graphics in the trailer...also, it makes me wonder if this is a rendered trailer, or in game footage.

Next, as a WWII history buff the whole: "Lets make a WW2 Fortnite" vibe I got from the trailer made my skin crawl. It's fine if DICE / EA is just showing as much as possible of game physics etc. in one short video...but I saw British Churchill tanks, a Japanese Katana, a Russian AA trailer, all in what appears to either be the French Country side or somewhere in Holland. These things, and loads of other bits of weapons and whatnot make my WWII OCD-fact-finding alerts go to level 1 battle stations.

If this is like COD: WWII, BF1, or BF4 in implementation (i.e. that the SP campaign is true to life-ish, while MP is all over the place), then that is fine.

As someone posted in comments on the BFV reveal trailer, its meant to be fun and not super realistic....all the same, if this is EA's bid for the Fort Night / PUBG scene, count me out.

I'll wait until the game is out and there are reviews and actual in-game footage, before passing my final judgement.

Note: I like WWII history quite a bit...if the avatar and signature didn't give it away.

DoDS was BFE - I played for days ...literally - we set some records with 3-4 day battles I think!! The rest of what Simon said is exactly where I am on this as well. I want the Beta!!

I want sniper rounds to go through walls as well!!!

Watching JackFrags talking about squad leader perks/abilities makes me actually want to play as squad leader, which I generally dislike.
