Hi Guys,

just wanted to report back as I was missing a while now. I try to go on the server more often from now on. My father was diagnosed with a very rare and fast form of dementia (Frontotemporal Dementia) and its a pretty hard time for the whole family now as my father is only 60 and as a matter of months he went from "beeing a bit forgetful" to "does not who he and everyone else is and beeing unable to do anything". Most of the stuff that needs to be done is done by now, now we are waiting for a genome test as it might happens that I have this desease too (if its a genome I will ahve a 100% outbreak chance between 50 and 60 years) which also does not make it better at all (and waiting for the testresult takes 12 weeks, this is very tough, as I was planning to have kids with my wife, which I cannot do if I have this bullshit).

So btt: I hope that I am more often on the server from now on.

One last question: Normally the clan tag was assigned automatically to me, this does not happen anymore. Did there change anything?

Be brave all!

The clan tag not assigning happens if you haven't logged into the forums for at least a week and go inactive. That was probably it. When you go back in you should be good to go now :)

I'm very sorry to hear about your father and I hope your family can get through things. We had to deal with dementia with my grandfather not very long ago and it was awful, so all the best to you and your family working through it.

Very glad to hear though that you're back gaming with us again. There's an event tonight on the Donner/Anzio/Kalt server if you want to join in! (8pm EST).

Hi, thank you. The Event is temptimg, but I live in germany, which means its 3 o'clock in the morning here ^^. Im in my 30s and its not as easy as a few years before to stay up so late :P

My condolences for your problem. these sort of things can strike any time to any one, keep fighting it will help to bind the family together.

Sorry to hear this about your father that puts you in a tough spot. Perhaps you and your wife could consider adoption if you are wanting to have kids but not pass this disease along. There are options in order to have children but keep them from having the same issues you have. I understand about not having children myself, my own ability to have children was a decision I had to make at 26 years old for certain health aspects of my life it was the only way to deal with the pain I was in at the time. However, as fate would have it I met my husband at 30 and he wasn't overly fussed about me not being able to have children and it worked out for both of us. However, I would still love to adopt a child if the chance every presented itself in the right situation :)

We are considering this. But there is only a low chance that I have it. Only 10% of the times this desease is caused by genetic issues, then only 50% of the time the gene is passed along. So I have about a 5% chance. What is killing me is the waiting and the not-knowing. And of course seeing my father passing slowly away. Its advancing very fast right now and his clear moments get rarer each day.

Do your best to make each moment a great moment, live to have no regrets is all I can say. I watched my grandfather fade away over the course of a 3 month period when he declined rapidly. It sucks to watch it, it sucks to be in your position. Piece of advice I learned so that I had no regrets is to just make each moment as special as you can, always say I love you, give the other person a hug. Even if your fathers awareness has gone, you wont have any regrets by just making each day as best you can for him and yourself. I'm sorry your going through this and I'm sorry he has had this happen to him as well. Just try to be positive, (even though it is probably incredibly hard right now) Just know you are in others thoughts and prayers in this difficult time

Thank you for your kind words and your advice. We try to make everything as pleaseant as possible for him and visit him on a daily basis and do things with him he liked to do, although not everything can be done (e.g. going bicycling, which was his greatest hobby).
