When someone is lvl 50 (maybe thanks to 10x XP servers?) but comes to our BC2 server and goes 0/12 and -30 XP -- does this count as griefing?

I don't want people new to game to be discouraged from playing with us, but at some point I feel they are severely hindering the ability of their team to do well or have fun.

What do you think?

Maybe if the person was 0/30-40 deaths I might think something is up, but I regularly run with a .78 - .60 K/D ratio. I'm level 50, I just stink at FPS for the most part.

The other option besides griefing, is that someone could be on the server with a friend who either needs something unlocked, or is padding.

Like MacArther said, they may be trying to unlock something if it's just for a round or two. If it is consistent you might want to squad up and observe them to see what is going on.

You'll have to spectate them to see if it's griefing. I define griefing as directly making other players a difficult time to play. Whether it's standing in front of them while they try to snipe, throwing random explosives next his or her teammate, making a player take a teleporter to a glitched placed in tf2, team killing on purpose. But if it's just running in the open or whatever, then it is not. Even if they are normally a good player, going 0 and 12 just happens. If it doesn't seem like they are directly (but indirectly) interfering with other players' enjoyment, it isn't griefing. In the TF2 division, we have players playing as a crouching heavy across the map with a sandwich out and sometimes spy crabs as well. They get killed a lot of course but they aren't griefing by any means because they aren't directly making their teammates have a bad time.

I think deliberately killing yourself over and over again is griefing. So for me, when I see that many deaths, the only question is whether it's deliberate.

In our admin training Griefing is defined as any action that hampers the ability of other players to enjoy the server. If they are not interfering with other players then let them die.

Right, thanks for pointing out the training. So, when other players complain that so-and-so is 0/12, it's not direct interference, but.. is it keeping them from enjoying the game? For some people maybe.

Sounds like their own personal problem though. If a guy is blowing himself up and it's not attacking other players, or blowing up vehicles, it's just them being annoying more than anything. Yeah it causes one less teammate to be available but, is it worth your time to admin? I don't think so myself.

Doesn't it become a hindrance if it denies other players the use of an asset or if it causes the death of another play as in crashing a heli with a gunner on board? Do what you want to yourself but should it affect others?
