So on the map jb_clouds there's no minimap. So I thought it would be very handy to have a minimap to clouds.
Thoughts on this?

A lot of maps don't have a minimap. Why don't those maps have minimaps?

Making a minimap for all these maps is totally possible, it is just the map maker was too lazy to spend the 5-20 minutes to make one.

The problem is that in the grand scheme of things, in my opinion, it isn't worth it because that means someone would have to decompile the map, fix everything that broke during decompiling, then have to re add it to the server so everyone has to download another ~100mb map that just has the minimap updated. None of this is that challenging, but still takes time.

Now I'm not saying minimaps are bad because they are extremely useful and wish the map makers weren't lazy. However, I think it would be better to wait until a big map update or something in order to update the minimap.

Can you elaborate on why it might be handy?

You can find out where the ct's are at or if your walking around there might be a t somewhere and you can see a dot on the minimap. For example when I was playing, I was facing north and on my minimap it showed that everyone was behind me when in reallity they were infront of me on my left side (West). Basically, I'm facing north, they show as if they're south when in reallity they're west. Also it's easier to spot if someone is in a secret, like for example on clouds if they're on the one way at maincells or armoury, or if someone has the stone secret. It's just soo much better.

Problem is every time you rename or edit the map you need to redo the minimap and it's long, also sometimes it doesn't work with servers/plugins anyway

And yes, you can just add the minimap to your overviews folder.

as long as you don't have any edits to the core geometry of the map, you can usually get away with just renaming the txt and dds files to match the new map name.

Making a proper minute takes upwards of an hour, they're layered, keyed, and need to be consistent and one mistake means you restart. Actual mappers just want to make the map and be done.

Making a working minimap takes 5 minutes. Labeling it takes another 5. Layering a minimap or adding in radio callouts are generally unnecessary. The only time you should ever have to restart is if you don't write down the coordinates from which you took the screenshot.

nah don't add a minimap. Rebelling is fun when you can be sneaky. With a minimap, CTs would be able to instantly tell which secret you're hiding in and know where to preaim.

Orrrr, you could still rebel, but you actually have to aim.

Like Drewerth said, if someone wants to make the maps and give Tech the zips then by all means do so. I just know CS Leadership shall not be doing it.

Cheers!
