We are all in this community yet most of us know very little about eachother so I thought I'd start a post asking what everyone does or (for students) what they plan to pursue. Perhaps it'll start some interesting conversations.

The rules for this post are simple:
1. Respect other's profession even if you disagree with the career choice - they may be proud of it
2. Summarize your profession in 1 or 2 sentences
3. Tell us what made you want to pursue such profession, the reason for pursuing imho matters more than the actual profession itself.

I'll start, I'm an engineer who designs temporary shoring and bracing for trenches to keep construction workers safe. The reason I pursued engineering is because I found that I was talented in mathematics and in sciences. I simply chose a career I felt played into my strengths. I also wanted to feel that I make an impact on the world while being challenged by my position. I saw that most engineering majors was projected in the top 10 for job growth over the next 10 years and selected the one I felt had the best job security - Civil Engineering.

I'm a student, but I plan on pursuing the medical field, specifically Orthopedics. I am unsure of where to go after that but surgery seems the most viable option for me

I'm still a student, second to last year in highschool. But I plan to go to trade school and take up digital art. I want to be a concept artist for either a video game company or an animation company.

im a university student studying electrical and computer engineering (ECE). i started as a computer science major but switched to ECE because i am good at math and ECE focuses more on math. i've also always been curious how electronics work and i want to be able to invent gadgets and unlock the secrets of something that has always seemed alien to me. engineering is very big where I live (near houston, tx) so job security also played a factor in my decision.

I'm a Ballroom/Latin Dance Instructor/Competitor for Arthur Murray Dance Studio. They are a franchised business that helps people of all ages pursue their love of such things. I enjoy getting to spend time with people who are taking time out of their busy lives to either pursue a passion they've always wanted to do, help a couple re-kindle their love for one another, or help build their dream of becoming a "Dancing With the Stars" level dancer. Frankly I just love getting to be active all day, travel to so extremely fun places, and make a pretty good living while doing it.

If you want more details, you can reach out and ask.

im educating to become a chef since i love making food for myself and others

Im an electrician, my goal in life is to make enough to raise a family honestly.

Student- Freshman in college
Studying Atmospheric Sciences. Don't know what field yet :)

You've chosen a strong field right now. My little brother almost chose the same degree but then he found that he could just take business degree and focus in CMIS and go for a 2 year associates, and probably still make the same ammount of money, without having to do so much math. It appears that he does not take as strong of an interest in science and mathematics as I do and just sees a job as as a job. Anyways I wish you luck, I reccomend you take it serious from the start, engineering majors are high risk high gain majors. The high risk is they have some of the highest drop out rates in the country, the gain is quick growth in the professional field and high demand for your services. Which means its easy to get a job and increase your pay grade.

I'm going to school for social work and counselling --which is what i want to do later in life-- And currently working at an insurance company for the IT dev/service team

i don't see myself switching majors. im in my junior year now and have most of my mathematics behind me. only core classes left. i can't wait to graduate man haha
