Bad Company 2 Did I baserape or enter the uncap?

I promised Gotcha I'd post this yesterday, but by the time I finished typing and tried posting the pic, it made me re-login and I lost everything I wrote. I'll be better prepared next time and copy everything first.

I wish I'd been recording, but I know how to record an instant replay now.

See the pic...pardon the poor drawing quality

I was gunner

The two tanks were camping in the field and we went after them. They retreated [blue lines] and collided over the ridge [orange lines] firing at us all the time. They interfered with each other and couldn't go further down the rise and we were attacking them from the angle you see. This is the point where baserape was called.

The helo driver never faced the base, he concentrated on the tanks and flew something like the red line. He circled them a couple of times [red lines again]and I was firing almost straight down. I don't believe the pilot ever went far enough into the base to be above the buildings or the vehicles.

The yellow lines show what we loosely call the uncap border....do we have a map that draws an actual uncap border? The US border is almost 5 times further from the base than the RU's, and some people hug both of them every chance they get.

In any case, if this is considered "entering the uncap" then I apologise, but it also brings into question whether that US rise on the left should be considered so safe that you're immune if you back on over it. I'm all for un-encumbered playing styles, but camping should have its limits.

until fired upon.... magic formula

and as gotcha plays almost exclusively in uncap area, this looks like a legit kill:)

The yellow line from the US base is further out than it should be, the base is just the spawn area, not the whole valley.

If the top of the valley is not the limit of the US base someone should be told. Since as far as I and others know, the line of rocks and top valley make the edge. I don't play other servers, where are their limits, we can't have multiple limits.

Seems like it would be stupid to attempt movement down the slope to the US base but I'm sure someone will do it.

Can we get a definition of the US uncap please?

See? Told you I could stir the pot without even touching the spoon!

I actually think the borders as we've been using them all these years work fine for the most part. What motivated me to write about it was the baserape accusation, and the "get out of the uncap" warnings from the admins ingame at the time...especially since I only recently came back to the fold. I'm pretty mouthy with rapers and I didn't want to be identified as one.

I'm not sure what the solution would be here. How often does this happen, really? And my main concern is whether the helo was breaking the rules by attacking from the angle we did even though we were being fired upon...a tank just a few meters over the ridge has a much improved angle to hit a helo in front of it, but it would still be firing from the uncap. Maybe there should be more severe repercussions for firing out of the uncap than the enemy just being able to fire back? Anti-air being an exception, maybe?

I like the border where is now also. There was also one official reference (a ban report) to that line before in a situation where a highly ranked soldier was planting mines on the road. My determination for a line setting an uncap border is to use a "continental divide", one side in the other out.

As I understand it, you may attack/fire upon soldiers/assets inside the uncap that are firing on you or that have moved back into the uncap after having left it. You are at risk to do that. If you hit an asset/soldier that has not fired out then you are committing an uncap violation(We have been told to not use the word baserape). While in pursuit of an individual(s) or asset that is returning to the Main base you may not enter the confines of the base, that is an uncap violation.

Fair enough..."baserape" is an accurate description but not an appropriate one. How about "uncappers"?

By that description I certainly entered the uncap then. I'm not sure I agree with the rule that someone shooting out of the uncap is only responsible for himself but puts someone retaliating at risk of becoming an uncapper. The "team" model of the game has kind of been superseded by the "squad" as time goes by, but maybe the team should be responsible for someone shooting out of their uncap. They really should be only doing that out of desperation anyway, no?

i think, there is no good solution but admins. it woll be allways emotional, allways subjective
.
ocasional kill on the edge of the base (fired upon or not) is not that big issue (althought i understand admins approach, as you need to act consistent). most important, there is no deliberate spawnkill in base (e.g. strategicly placed/stolen tanks raping seconds after spawning).

Personally I totally agree with you Tikkun , if someone keeps shooting out of the uncap then that makes the whole team responsible for that player , and further more if anything they should understand and support the fact that the player in question is the one putting them at risk of baseraping and support the enemy trying to discourage the " perp " from doing so , I have " killed " and " kicked " a few players for camping in uncap or on the edge and backing in when being fired upon a few times , I warn / kill / kick . They are the one instigating baserape .

To me that seems pretty close. The way I see it is you can return fire but not go into enemy base after them. I never get to close just to make Shure, but if I hit someone close to you that wasn't firing I see your point.

Since it's not really a common situation, maybe it's best to leave it as a sort of grey area, or look at it as an inherent advantage to the US side. Afterall, there is only two small spots on the RU side [the road and in front of the Havoc] where you can escape behind the border so quickly...the rest of it is rock and other obstacles. I don't know if there's even a spot where two tanks could fire side-by-side.

Mercer812, I do my best never to infringe on the uncap, either. That's why I had to post...it was just an uncomfortable situation being called an "uncapper", and the way it went down made me feel that Gotcha was playing his own little game there. It didn't *feel* like a violation, though I now know it was.

Maj...sometimes those calls are hard, I bet. If you're not actually in the squad or in visual range, it's just a bunch of guys making accusations at each other.

Guys...I appreciate your support. It never hurts to ask for clarity from the group.
