Title, I think all criminals that have played on the FiveM server can agree that the jail time is absolutely appalling.
The most fun part of the FiveM server is the police chases and shit like that, but at the end of the day, it's not worth it because you spend 45 minutes of your time in the damn jail, making the game boring for everyone. You get your 10 minutes of fun, (a quarter of it spent dead because police investigating) and 45 minutes of wasted time. On top of that, you also lose a large sum of money depending on the crime, the hours you spend grinding money just go to a -40,000 bill. I think everyone can agree that they must decrease jail time. Which makes it even less fun is that you can't fool around because police, etc.. will take the game too seriously and will probably be super toxic while you're getting arrested. The only people who can have fun are the people apart of the ES so if you can't apply, because you're too young or whatever you're practically forced to be a criminal and get these punishments on the daily.

This really needs to change for the sake of the players fun, I know most ES members would not want this because this doesn't involve them and they want it to be as realistic as possible, but they do need to remember nobody wants to sit there for 45 minutes doing nothing, I mean, come on, you can't even delete the character while in jail...

Yes, I get it, you all want this to be a super realistic server, but can we atleast decrease it, even if its by a few minutes?

Jail times are fine, you shouldn’t be going to Jail often enough where 45 minutes is a huge deal. If you commit crimes every single day you’re on the server, that’s a problem.

Stop just committing crime and doing nothing else. Develop your character, RP in different ways. As someone who had an LEO character on the server, trust me random chases, robberies and gun fights were truly the least fun I had. The parts that are fun are the scenarios that are well thought out, RP’d appropriately, and most importantly, develop a story.

tl;dr Stop only doing criminal activity and then complaining about being punished for being a criminal.

I would agree with you if I didn’t get 80 minutes for flight and assault. They know they’re supposed to go heavy on a fine and lower on time and many officers just go max time anyway.

So the easiest fix is to lower max time so people can’t ruin the experience for others.

Personally, I think the jail times are great. Weird to say for someone who only really plays a criminal in the server, but there are really good reasons why.

As I like to say: "Order over chaos". You can follow the laws, you can stop for red lights, you can go the speed limit, you can stop for traffic stops, etc., and still be a criminal. Being a nuisance and annoying the police just so you can have fun doesn't equal criminal.

The goal of the server is for you to grow and further develop your character to fit the story line you want. If you want to be a petty criminal who goes to jail every day for dumb things, then do so! You just can't complain about the consequences of your actions. I'm not saying "just don't be a criminal lmao" because that is a path a lot of people want to go down and that's perfectly fine... but you need to get organized, get smart, and start planning your activity to either avoid getting caught, or provide the cops some wonderful roleplay.
Honestly, it's satisfying watching people who blast through the streets going 200mph+ getting jail time.

This isn't going to be a tutorial on how to be a better criminal - that's something you're going to have to figure out yourself. I'm just saying that if you don't grow and learn from your past mistakes, then the consequences you're experiencing are very well deserved. The police want to have roleplay, too. They're not just there to stop bad guys, take all your money, and throw you in jail for a long time. They want to develop their story, too. Give them a chance and lay off the insanity to be a better roleplayer.

I have 3 characters, One is a criminal, one is a cop, and another a prosecutor. When I first started off in this city as a criminal and didn't have a clue how exhausting being a cop can be. Especially when most criminals are very disrespectful and non-compliant. Some criminals make being a cop just not fun and annoying. See depending on how you play as a criminal, will depend on your jail time to be honest. If your being a disrespectful criminal then you deserve to get max time. If your being compliant most cops will lower your sentence. It also depends on the cop, my cop criminal is fairly new so I like to make sure I follow the lawbook fines and jail time guidelines. My best advice is for you to make a character a cop or watch someone play as a cop and see how obnoxious some criminals can be towards cops and ruin the vibe for cops trying to RP.

90% of police would disagree with you including myself. After 2 years and 1000+ pursuits, maybe 10% of those pursuits were "fun" for me.

This conversation has been had time and time again. Honestly, i'd say people are lucky they weren't around for the original lawbook. 75 minutes for Flight & Reckless alone. Look, if you go around doing nothing but running from cops, gunning people down, and acting like a menace to society, yeah, expect huge jail time. Seeing as we can't give you a death penalty for murder x10 and attempted murder x20, or, in character terms: perma your character, you're gonna have the cops' wrath if you're a repeat offender. If you're concerned about your 10 minutes of fun, go set up a scene with overturned trucks in the zancudo river where the cops & and civs can work together, where that scene will last 20+ minutes, and end with no fine or jail time for you.
The only people who can have fun are the people apart of the ES so if you can't apply, because you're too young or whatever you're practically forced to be a criminal and get these punishments on the daily.
What?? If ES was the only way to have fun, nobody would be a criminal, and everyone would be in the PD. Inkery, Confission, Illusion, Blossom, dink, Immigrant, and a bunch of other people who have built criminal empires, and have LITTLE TO NO activity in ES on other characters. Why would they go through the trouble of this if criminal RP is boring. I think your post is made off examples of your own roleplay, so my suggestion, ask for help from these guys; they know how to criminal RP. Me personally, I love cop RP and dislike criminal RP, but that dislike has nothing to do with ES.

On the contrary, we want you out so we can get our side of RP. I don't like putting a player on the sidelines for 40 minutes, because that's one less player to provide civilian roleplay.

I think it would benefit this thread if you were to put specific charges and suggestions for time changes here for everyone to see, and Leadership to look into in coordination with the DOJ.

I mean. if we weren’t supposed to give sentences this long then they shouldn’t be that long in the lawbook. it’s more of a doj thing than a cop thing. Additionally I’m one of those cops who likes shootouts and chases, doesn’t mean I’ll give you a small sentence though because you were still being criminal man. if it’s something smaller than shooting the whole force and it’s fun then yeah maybe I’ll drop the time and a lot of people can probably attest to me giving discounted time and fines.

tldr you just can’t expect to kill all of safr but make it fun for the cops and then get 5 months there’s more to it than that

They should make the sentences real time.

I skimmed through most people's responses so sorry if I didn't get the complete idea of everyone's thoughts but here's how I LOOK at it. Criminals shouldn't feel punished for their type of roleplay. What I mean by this, they should STILL get booked, with time and such. However, I would love to see the time and ESPECIALLY fine reduced.
Why I think this, the current state of the server you could say its clearly starting to get more popular. With this, there is a huge influx of new and active players who haven't been here for months to farm money or for a whitelisted job. If we look at a regular scene for criminal roleplay for new players it USUALLY consists of, bank robbery -> Flee -> Shootout. Not saying every scene should or does go like this however for this example we'll assume that this scene did. Let's just go over SOME possible charges they'll be looking at or at least the principal of the crime would be.
Kidnapping - 5 months (MAX 10) with a 2,000$ or 40 minutes in the server from regular miner or non-whitelisted job payments.
Armed Robbery (Assuming they have a firearm of sorts) - $12,500 fine with 10 months (MAX 20)
Possession of a stolen vehicle (Assuming they stole a vehicle) - $500 fine with 10 months (MAX 15)
Flight from Law Enforcement - $15,000 and 10 months
Attempted Murder of a LEO - 30 months per LEO and 45,000$ fine
Obviously, every scene will be different, they will have variables that aren't included in this exact scene ex, Cop forgets to bill, is nice to them, etc etc
With every one of those charges (assuming they book you with 1x attempted murder of a LEO) you are looking at 75,000$ and 65 months which is a decent amount for someone with a non-whitelisted job making 500$ every 10 minutes.

To add to this, the DOJ is working on a new lawbook I personally have no idea if the times and fines will be changed however I do know that there will be new charges added and some reworked.

What? Isn't that the whole point of roleplay, to create fun scenes for everyone to enjoy whether that's criminal or cop or EMS or mechanic roleplay. Would you tell a cop to quit roleplaying because they're being a cop every day? No.

I disagree. Luna Luna brings a good point. Crims have the option to create good RP that is not illegal. They have the option to create a backstory.

Since you mentioned Cops, they do not have that option. By being in a whitelisted job, you are required to do Cop RP.

First of all, Thank you dank dank for the suggestion.

I'm going to start off with the main point, if you didn't know quite a while ago there was a severe decrease in the length of time that was associated with jail sentances, and I understand your concerns that come along with them. With this severe decrease in mind, we also need to highlight that there is a revised Lawbook being worked on, that will attempt to bring some of these changes that have been recommended by you.

Also recently a lot of work has been put into improving the quality of life inside of the Prison.

A group of people has recently started the Department of Corrections, along with that comes with a very wide range of new features that will improve prison life and the overall experience inside of the Prison, I'm not going to get too into detail because you should find out in RP, but next time you find yourself in Bolingbrook, try to make your ways with one of the prison guards, it might work out in your favor.

The whole idea that the cop gets to weigh wether the role play was good/fun for them and someone’s jail time/fine is silly. What may not be fun to a cop may be fun to a relatively new player and punishing them so severely is ridiculous. You also are think to much from the mindset of hardcore crims, not everyone has the time or effort to invest into that, and it’s silly to punish people for not meeting a standard set by people who do.

At that point if someone’s rp is bad enough they get absurd jail time why not just warn them for low effort rp, instead of practically soft banning them and making them despise the police/server.

Yeah.

Crim RP is hard to do right. For ES RP, you have set guidelines on what to do in a lot of scenarios. For all the cops here who say that robberies, chases, and shootouts who say aren't fun, I really want to see recommendations OOC on how to improve someone's RP scene after they get jailed. I don't want to see a 80 month jail time and not have any tips to improve the RP for everyone involved.

Personally i just give everyone low jail times. If you remotely put effort in IDC if I had fun. From my point of view if you had fun thats whats important.

And I also dont think we need to lower jailtimes with the jail RP coming

As the dude who is writing the law book I should probably comment. Right now, the Jail Times a somewhat high, with a low fine for most things. And while I agree that some cops are just toxic and will hit you with the entire book, as of now a new DA has been selected, as well as a Prosecutor, with more to come. Meaning, THEY get to decide the time and fine they want to push. In the end, the prosecution decides how long people face, so now that get rid of the toxic cops issue.
Currently, Time is only really big if you commit multiple felonys. 10 minutes for fleeing from police? 30 minutes for shooting at a cop, potentially taking away anything he can do for the next 10-30 minutes? Yeah, that's pretty fair IMO. If you feel cops add random charges, speak with a lawyer. They can help you out, and usually get you time dropped. And in addition to what star said, Jail RP is here with the DOC. Reducing jail time is not a major issue. It will probably be reduced a bit, but not by much unless GTA LE and the public feel otherwise.

And while I agree that some cops are just toxic and will hit you with the entire book
I think this is the one thing that needs to change, if there isnt a reason to hit someone with the book just dont lmao. Is there a way to legally just make this impossible. Like not allowing certain charges to stack. Like reckless and flight or something along those lines.

I completely disagree with this, i honestly had the idea to make a post about increasing jail times. If you're constantly going to jail then that is on you, you either lack the ability to do proper planning or you don't play realistically enough and get yourself involved in police chases, shootings, etc. As Alex Alex said, thanks for the shoutout also, I have had many criminal characters over my years here in eGO. Anyone who knows me knows that Criminal RP is something I love, the rush you get during a shooting or when making an illegal sale, fleeing from cops, whatever is it, idk, maybe its just me.

Regardless, plan and be a better criminal. My current Criminal RP character, commonly known as Big D, has been to jail once, and it was during a "protest" where I received loitering and obstruction of justice, however shootings, selling drugs and selling guns are something my gang and I do constantly. If you set up good RP, and plan on how to get away you can make it fun for all parties.

Just yesterday we had a run in with @Oblixion for robbing/kidnapping someone, everyone who got detained was polite and nice to the cops, we did them a favor and in return they did us a favor and no one got sent to jail or charged.

Long story short, find a way to develop your RP and do proper planning, criminal RP isn't just robbing a bank and shooting cops, there's so much more.

I just wanted to echo what iLLusion wrote here.

Other than toxic cops throwing the book at people who they didn't enjoy the roleplay scene with (which needs to end asap... it's ridiculously childish)

There's nothing wrong with the jail times currently and are a decent deterrent from someone just going out and committing crimes nilly-willy. Like iLLusion, I have had many criminal characters and been involved in a lot of the organized crime scene in this particular city. Planning and good roleplay will carry you much further than trying to make the most amount of money as a criminal in a Roleplay server.

For instance... since I've been in Edge's server, specifically, one of my characters has robbed nearly every single bank that's possible to rob and I don't think I've ever been caught for it yet on that character. Other situations that I've been arrested for, I try to provide solid roleplay so that cops actually enjoy the scene and get from it what they are in the server to get: FUN. We're all here to have a good time and have fun.

If you're getting caught every single time, the problem is on you and your poor planning or how you're choosing to roleplay (or the lack of effort of your roleplay) --- Criminal Roleplay is not for everyone. It's not supposed to be easy. It's not supposed to feel like you're playing GTA Online and doing a Heist mission. Take a moment and plan out your crimes. Every crime should have a Plan A, Plan B and even sometimes, a Plan C.
