Economy Discussion

This was discussed a bit in discord and during the meeting but I think it would be a bit more productive in the forums.

My friends and I are pretty new to the server, the main problem we have with the server (and the reason we don't play as often as we could) is because of the economy. We all have jobs IRL and can't play for a majority of the day like some of the members of this server do. At most we have 2 or 3 hours every night and the last thing we want to do it have to grind for the whole time on the server. We want to roleplay, we want to efficiently be able to get around town without having to steal a car, we want to not have to spend half of our money on food and water. I think these are some pretty basic wants but I'm not totally sure what the wants of the already standing community are. I understand what the devs have in mind for the city economy wise but it's not going to draw new people in which was a major concern in the discord meeting the other night. If nothing is done it is going to be very hard to grow the community because most people don't want to work a second job which is currently what the server feels like. After a week and a couple days of playing on the server, between my friends and I, we maybe have around 20k. It shouldn't take 5 people a week and a half to afford a cheap beater car that can be used to get around town. Everyone always says to lease a car but we don't want to have the responsibility to grind to make a payment every couple days or weeks or whatever the time period is. Like I stated earlier, we want to roleplay and have fun and create memories on the server. So far there has been very minimal roleplay even when we seek it out, and no memories have been made. This makes us, and probably other new players, not want to return to the server. If everyone is fine with the current economy, maybe we are in the wrong and this server just isn't what we are looking for. I'm not really sure what the best solution is here, or if the economy is just what you guys want, but I just wanted to voice our concerns and start a discussion about the current economy.

Personally I have had no issues making money in the city and being able to have some really good RP scenarios. And I too work a full time job. The economy the way it is makes people think before they spend their money.

What jobs do you do? The only jobs I have access to are the basic trucking and garbage that make a couple hundred an hour. New players shouldn't be thrown into a server and forced to grind for 10 hours just to afford a basic car. Players are not going to be drawn to the server and they won't want to stick around. In the meeting they had a big concern of getting new players into the city, if everyone just blows off the problem as "oh but I make money" then there will be no solution to this problem. Instead of blowing off the opinions of new players (those that were asked for) maybe a discussion should be had and a solution to the problem should be found. As of now the server is a straight grind for anything, the server is built for people who play all day and can afford to be on the server for 10+ hours a day, not for new players who are just looking for a game to play. You shouldn't have to dedicate a third of your life to a server to have fun.

Thoughts on lower tier cars?
like suggesting lower tier cars that would obviously be a bit beat down or w/e but a lot cheaper than the mostly 20k ish ones now

Mining nets $4-650 an hour.

The economy is basically designed around all civilian jobs (Except trucking, that job don't pay shit unless you hire employees and dump 15k into trucks) to pay $500 an hour roughly. Garbage, uber eats, mining, they all pay roughly $500 per hour. Dumpster diving CAN be a bit more lucrative once people actually own vehicles and parts become more valuable.

But I entirely agree we need lower end 5-10k finance possible vehicles, they just need to be hot garbage, but run.

I agree with you on this, people get on FiveM to escape reality in some sort they get on to roleplay a character and have fun with their imagination, and over all to have fun its good to have changes in the server and have a new economy change but that might not work with people with full-time jobs that only have a couple of hours to play and people that only have 1-4 hours to play their wasting their only time to do anything else to play on the server to grind and like you said have a second job with no outcome to it I my self love to play FiveM really its the only reason why I have my pc, I've been playing on edge FiveM server since Oct 7, 2019, and tbh I had great memories and I want to continue to make memories on the FiveM server without having a second job in a game, at the end of the day its a game and there are rules to follow in the game but it shouldn't feel like a second job.

As someone who mains RP and doesn't really care about money or wanting anything specific (I don't grind for money I find it mind numbing no matter what game I play) I personally don't have an issue with this economy. I've been able to mine and do other odd jobs when the server is quiet and I have over 13k in my bank. Which took about 2 weeks of doing odd jobs and MAINLY RPing. I actually just financed a car so I can get around and I know you might have previously said you don't want to finance but that's the help this econ gives us and you either take it or don't.

The economy if built for a slower progression (which I personally enjoy) and if you don't want to "grind" then you got to find a balance of RP and making money.

From someone who spends most of their time roleplaying as a cop, I do miss being able to go off duty and drive around and roleplay separately from the cop roleplay. Currently, in order to purchase a car I would have to patrol for nearly a month, the police pay is good and the car prices are fine. But the time needed to sustainably go offduty every once in a while feels weird. I would love a cheaper option when purchasing a car, I don't really care if it's a junk car but something I can call my own without leasing would be awesome.

We now have 5k total cars that are junkers, like 1k to finance, means like less than $500 payments once a week. We also have Bicycles now as well.

There are so many jobs you can do, mining, fishing, Uber eats, Uber, trucking, jobs for player owned stores. There's whitelisted jobs like the mechanic shops, PD, EMS, Burger Shot. Then there's criminal jobs like selling drugs, robbing the bank truck, robbing houses, etc. I work a full time job, 6am-4pm Monday to Friday and I have no issues making money in the city, and I play nowhere near 10 hours a day.
You can also make fun RP events that people pay for, last weekend some friends and I hosted a Bachelorette, we charged people admission and made $1900 over 2 hours and there was no grinding required, just all fun RP.
This weekend I was on vacation from Friday to Sunday and still made $1100 in the city via my gas station, eBay and the Crypto market.

There are also cars that cost like $7000 and bicycles you can buy for $80-$250.

All in all money is no where near everything in the city, if you're just here to have fun then making money shouldn't matter at all. You really don't need much money to host or join fun RP scenes/events. @Inkery hosts the "Kelter Krusher" and it costs him and the people who participate $0. The point is there are endless things you can do to make good money and have fun.

IMO people who are complaining about the economy are probably looking for a handout so they can buy whatever they want whenever.

^ This! We do host quite a bit of events so RP shouldn't be an issue.
We also host events where you don't need to pay money for, you just got to pay attention to twitter, yellow pages and other apps IC. At least from our end we try to host these events IC so you have to do your part in interacting/using what's available to you which I'm sure you are trying your best to do but there is no shortage of RP fun in this server.

I kind of went off on the original topic but I do agree with iLLusion when it comes to making money in the server.

I dont have an issue with the economy the way it is. I haven't played that much and still managed to rack up 11k in my bank account. The point of the economy is that it is supposed to take a while before we get to higher end cars, and you will need to finance a car to get one. You dont want to? thats fine, then dont have a car. Play for 3 hours a week and you can still rack up money whilst RP'ing. I've done it, so it should be possibly for other people to.

Honestly couldn't of said it better myself.

You do not need to grind to roleplay. If you want to own things then sure, you need to grind a bit but not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

The bottom line is: No one will be making it rich in a month's time.

For 1) We already know how boring it is for everyone to be a millionaire. That was the previous City's biggest issue, actually.
And 2) The City is still new and also needs to progress and be built up to the point where we can bring in more lucrative jobs and other various methods of possibly making a buck without that "solo grind" feeling.

At the moment, there's going to be people who are going to be grinding to get themselves established. This happens in every roleplay server that starts up. Until the City is built up and established, it's going to feel a bit "grindy" but it is what you make of it. You don't want to grind? Don't. Go and roleplay. Create an roleplay scenario/event/story arc or whatever that people can be a part of.

Be your character. Create the Roleplay. Build the City.

Everyone should understand that roleplay is the endgame here. You aren't playing a Prisons server on Minecraft where the goal is grind 24/7 with no other opportunities for fun. I've said it before and i'll say it again, in hopes that I can add on to what Echo said: You do NOT need to grind to create good roleplay. However, I will say that yes, grinding is going to be a huge part of the servers starting lifespan, especially considering how big of a change the economy brought compared to chapter 1. If you wanna be a kingpin, go for it, I truly hope it pays off down the road.

Actually, with the recently bought ammunations, there are CONSTANTLY jobs that pay $125-$150 per run for delivery. It's currently the easiest way to make a quick $1000. So you could say, the server is already progressing in a way to lessen the grind. This mixed with the new low end car options means life has become pretty easy lately.

Precisely, and there is many ways to RP with others while making money, Drugs is a good way to have some fun times with the comrades
