Garry's Mod Problems

Hey everyone,
i just bought garry's mod, and when i go into any donner servers (i haven't checked the other level things) in single player it crashes with

"Failed to lock vertex buffer in CMESHDX8::LockVertexBuffer"

i tried a normal field (one of the garry's mod standard levels) and it seemed to work fine for me.

it hasn't happened on any other game yet. so i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this?

A quick google gave me lots of potential problems and solutions but I also found this as a temporary workaround:

in steam games menu, right click the game you want to play > properties > set launch options > In the text field, type: -dxlevel 70

I had a similar problem running Hidden Source with an older computer, and using a similar command (I think it was -dxlevel 90, though) helped me to run it.

unfortuneatly, the same thing happened.

i was just wondering, doesn't GMOD depend on having Half Life 2?
i actually don't have it.
maybe that might be the problem?

On the garry's mod homepage, there's a recent posting saying that changes to the source engine broke the mod for a while. Are you updated to the latest version yet?

You dont have to have Half Life 2 for GMOD 10, but you do for GMOD 9. GMOD 10 supports TF2, DOD:S, Portal, HL2 E:1 + E:2.....any of those games will make Garrys mod work.

have you tried updating your driver, its most likely a problem with your video cards software or hardware.

Gmod using hl2 also isnt the problem unless its gmod 9 or below, Gmod 10 comes with all the necessary functions it used to get from hl2. For example I only had CS:S when i got gmod

Okay, so i've tried EVERYTHING, from updating my graphics driver, updating GMOD, increasing my page memory (something from steam) and uninstalling my AVG anti-virus
and still nothing.
i don't konw what to do.

i've searched all over google, and still nothing.

if anyone could help, that'd be amazing

it appears it only happens on the dod servers, or when i Alt-Tab out of the game.

it isn't too bad, but i would like to fix it none-the-less.

go to your steamapps/username/garrysmod/garrysmod folder and rename it garrysmod old

activate the game again and see if that helps

i'm afraid that didn't work.

unless, what did you mean by activate it?
like just launch the game again
