[MOVED] newegg headsets

First off, we need a price range. Secondly, I can't full-heartedly recommend a headset to you. Most of them are cheaply made and much more expensive then they are worth simply because they are made for gamers, who for the most part, don't know any better.

My suggestion?
Get this for your mic and spend your money on a nice pair of actual, professional headphones (which kind, I can't suggest until you tell us your budget).

well...since you didn't say price was a problem...

the SteelSeries headsets (one of are new sponsor w00t!) are hard to beat.

5H v2 Professional Gaming Headset

I use the Saitek Cyborg 5.1 Headset. It's a great headset, but it's not sold on Newegg

...and you'd probably get better responces if you listed this in the tech help forum :) It's full of threads liks this...

Exactly what I would have said.

Headset < Mic + Headphones

In general the quality of the construction as well as the quality of audio is less on the Hedsets. Get the logitech desk mic he linked to, I've had 2 in 8 years and they work excellently. Then pick up some nice Sennheiser headphones. They range in price, but for the best quality/price I'd say:

But if you need cheaper:

or

And yes, totally the wrong forum.

lets put it this way, i spent about 4gs on my comp and everything. dont care how much as long as it with in reason(obviously not over $400) and worth the price. and about the free standing mic, hows that work do u have to leen in on it? do you poke ur eye out from time to time?:D

hey lafinass thanks for the advise. about the headphones, is it worth the extra $75 for the better phones. i only will use them for in game. will i hear the diffrence. and i have the creative soundblaster xfi extreme 7.1(lol longest name ever) and its mic jack wont work because of their terrible software(i have vista 64). i will switch to my motherboard wich is a evga 780i. is it possible to use them bolth so i get the 7.1 and have a mic? and is the 780i built in sound any good?

No, you don't have to lean into the mic to be heard. Mine sits on the desk 2 feet to my left, and people don't have any problem hearing and understanding me.

Also, my same question on your budget still applies; what is the exact figure you have in your head that you are looking to spend around? I assure you, it's WAY possible to spend over $400 on headphones.

I own the Turtle Beach Earforce HPA2's, they're true 5.1 surround sound headphones and they are amazing. I bought the 1st version years ago and these are so much better. In fact they are the OEM manufacturer of Razer's Barracuda 5.1 headset which go for about 30 - 50 more on average even though they are the same headsets basically.

ya but i did say resonable and over 400 is crazy unless u didnt earn ur money :). i dont make music or anything. id say i would like keep it under 100. more importantly is evga 780i built in sound anygood? i dont want spend a hundred bucks to listen to crap. i really just want a mic and since my mic software from creative doesnt seem to work im willing to step down to the evga sound. i dont know what do u guys think of the post before this ones headset? and can use the mic master suggested with my mobo and use my creative card for sound?

Well, it's all in perspective.. I have audiophile friends who have spent much more than that, who would say their money was well spent.. The average user however could live happily with the quality of your standard iPod earpiece. It's all how you look at things, but at least we have a figure now to look at for you: under $100.

Unfortunately, thanks to the removal of DirectSound from Vista, all hardware acceleration is gone.. Without that, the difference between your X-Fi and your 780i's onboard chip will be nominal. Not that you would be able to tell much of a difference anyway with most speakers/headphones.

can use the mic master suggested with my mobo and use my creative card for sound?

Yes you can. It is a USB mic, so you can use that without effecting any other component in your computer.

I'd buy the more expensive ones.

They've got a really impressive dynamic range. I have a similar pair, a model that isn't produced anymore. They're very comfortable and unless you run some impressive speakers you'll end up hearing sounds you've never noticed before.

As for the desk mic, mine sits under my monitor and is pointed at my chair. I play reclined and nobody has ever had any trouble hearing me. In fact, some of the more comical moments in vent happen when I've got the talk button down and the wife says something vulgar on the other side of the room.

The only problem with the mic is that Windows assumes you want to use the audio jack on the sound card, so any time you install new sound drivers it will re-assign the sound card as your default input device. It's a quick fix, but if you don't do it you'll beat your head against the wall trying to figure out why your mic doesn't work.

Sennheiser are the best headsetproducer in my opinion ! The sound is really, really good.
First i had a PC130, ok this was a really crap headset for 15?. Then i bought a PC150 from a friend. He had it about 2 Years, and i used it for 4 Years so it lasted 6 Years. It was really good but then ehm the "earsoftener" fell off and that kinda sucked. Because my ear hurts every time I play

so i got the logitec mic that goes threw usb like u suggested but it doesnt work. talk about frustration. i had the worst comp in the world before this one and it worked fine. now i have a bada$$ machine and the only problem is thata no matter what i do i cant get a mic to work. i guess this meen some tech support hours ahead. also the mic doesnt say anything about compatability with vista. in the diagnostics it only goes up to xp. oh the joy of windows!
