Hey there, so ive been playing tf2 everynow and then when things are quite CSS side, and i fell in love with the scout, as its sorta like how i play CS:S (quick rushing) but every map ive played on so far its very closed, few ways to flank, engineer heaven with me being torn to shreds any corner i try to turn by sentries... what maps that ego hosts would you guys suggest for me to play as a scout?

Have you tried 2fort? It can be hard sometimes, but if sentries are dead you can rush in so quick and out with the intelligence. ANOTHER great map that eGO have here that could be great in using scout is the cp_orange x3 map. That map is really open and could be great for jumping around with the scout. Just play around, you'll probably find a even better class that you'll like. ;)

The problem with your thinking Oldie is that all the TF2 maps are designed to more or less require multiple types of units working together to be effective. I have yet to see any map where a single unit has complete control over the entire map. Just as the name implies, Team Fortress 2 is all about team tactics.

The scout works well as a fast attacker that rushes in after heavier units bust through defenses. While the forward attackers are breaking down defenses, your job should be to watch for enemies flanking the position, alerting the forward attackers, and doing as much as you can to protect them while they open up opportunities for you to achieve objectives.

In my opinion, a good Scout can be an invaluable addition to a team on any map. Scouts are essential on CTF maps as they can quickly break the intel out and capture it before any enemy counters can build force. On CP maps, Scouts have great value as they can break through the open defenses, quickly jump on the point, and capture it twice as fast as any other single unit. On attack/defend maps, the Scout has great utility on both the offensive and defensive teams. On the attacking team, Scouts do a great job of flanking around building offenses and distracting them from building ubers or staying together as a cohesive unit. On the defending team, Scouts can quickly explore the area looking for possible trouble spots while also distracting the defense.

cp_gravelpit
cp_well
cp_granary
cp_fastlane
cp_orangex3

I disagree with 2fort because a scout needs open area to be effective. Yea its cool to jump across the roof of the bridge but once you get over there its all enclosed rooms and tunnels negating the scouts movement advantage.
Dustbowl is probably one of the least scout friendly maps out there. Very difficult to outmaneuver and flank the other team.
Goldrush 1 is ok on defense if you stick to the open areas, trying to push out to the spawn area after the cart passes the firt checkpoint can be tough though

gravelpit and granary are the best for scouts imo. badlands is nice to but we dont have it on our servers to my complete horror.

I understand that this is a TEAM game, but when 3/4 of the game is spent preparing ubers to go and clean out the sentries, wich half the attempts fail anyways cause theres 3-4 of them, i find myself on spy duty, which a pyro is so much better at... I enjoy black mesa for example becuase it gets so switched around that sentries arent built on every street corner, and the open space in the middle allows me ample room to annoy the snipers, medics, and heavies (jumping on their heads is ton of fun)

2fort

Seriously 2fort can be quite rewarding (not the instant respawn one). Yeah once the 4 sentry courtyard happens, you won't have much luck as a scout. However, these days you can often run right past a solo sentry without taking any damage.

What the others said though: try Blackmesa.

wait untill next week when the new update comes out Badwater Basin should be what your looking for.

I agree, Orange_X3 is a very open map that's great for scouts. It has a lot of room for maneuvering around players and sentries. I highly recommend it

lol it doesnt negate the scouts movement advantage. I cant count how many times ive ran in past the enemys defense got the intel and got out without firing a single shot and taking minimal damage. and in my oppinion thats the scouts main roll is, to cap points and intel. its how the class was designed so thats how i use it. the enclosed rooms and tunnels gives the scout cover.its not like he moves any slower once you get into confined spaces ...

the only time i play scout is when im in 2fort and most of the time thats the reason we win. my strategy is to break down defenses (mainly sg's) then switch to scout for a quick cap then do it again. sometimes thats not possible other times its too easy. depends on the enemys defense

For the short time we had a CTF Well server, I absolutely loved playing scout. If you are on a server with only a few other players, or not very many engies it can still be fun, but with Well, you could enjoy it most of the time.
