Enemy Territory: Quake wars

you should've played a demo of the game first

i got the demo on xbox live, it was horrible

And of course the entire Half Life series.
QFT.

I say, play the demo of ET:QW and see if you like it. You should also check out the Unreal Tournament games, each one has a demo. If you are interested at all, America's Army is free, and I enjoyed it for quite some time before moving on to TF2. Day of Defeat: Source is also pretty good, and eGO has a division for it.

I didn't like far cry, it was great in the beginning then it goes downhill from there. I hated the 'twist' in the game.

Its weird, the game itself is made well and plays well, but I don't ever want to play it and have no motivation to even pick it up ever. Odd.

(Only reason I have it was that it came free with my 8800gt.)

Painkiller and painkiller overdose are good FPS games, plus they are really dark and creepy.

Also bioshock is good..

bioshock is a great single player game.... in fact, as far as story and atmosphere, one of the best i have ever played. Single player only, but this one will keep you glued, wanting to find out what is next.

crysis is amazing, if your computer can handle it, otherwise its just ok. the story is just ehh, and there is nothing revolutionary about the gameplay, but the graphics are far and away the most photorealistic i have ever seen in a game... but as such, the game is a beast and requires a monster computer to run it in all its glory.

call of duty 4 is basically like playing a movie, extremely well done and relatively low system requirements, i think. I havent tried the multiplayer, but single player has a good story, and the whole game is very cinematic, not the best graphics i have ever seen, but still good.

unreal tournament 3... its all deathmatch and basically online type play, ie, no real story in single player mode. very very fast paced.

those are the big recent ones
