allcon - :)

I have a problem when playing a spy. i want to practice the 180 backstab technique, but whenever i'm in game and about to stab, my heart goes 100 miles an hour because i get all panicky ...and i forget all about wanting to practice ... i don't get this with any other class, only when i'm being a sneaky spy :)

however, i wanted to try it out a few times on my own to get it right. is there a way to spawn stationary enemies on a local LAN server to practice my sneaky spy 180 backstab techniques?

thanks :)

Of course. Go here: http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Bots

That'll tell you all the commands you need. From the main TF2 menu, just create your own server and select a map. The achievement maps work great, as the spawn area isn't protected. You'll need to hit your console and type sv_cheats 1 before you can do 90% of these, though.

thanks ninjafluff!!

PS is ninjafluff in any way related to marshmallow fluff? :)

nope. the texture of foods throw me off more than anything else, and this stuff just feels WEIRD

I think I might do this also. I was practicing spying in warpath this morning. It was awesome :D

Yea they are all practising cause when i get on the servers they all go down. :P

it was fairly fun to practice last night. didn't amount to much on turbine. still don't have that darn 180 backstab down.

on the plus side, i did kill fatback once or twice. that always makes my day :D

I know what you mean TC. When I go in for a backstab, I get all excited and I once even started to sweat. :? But that was when I got like, 7 backstabs in a row. My heart was beating REALLY fast! :P

i won't lie, it definently takes more than practice to get the 180 stab down perfectly. and no one can land it %100 of the time. to get to the point where a 180 backstab is necesary you'd either need the "acting ability" as i like to call that part of a spy to be able to run the opposite direction someone is running in. I use it more often when i miss a stab or if i'm caught, trying to get your enemy to run around you in a circle is perfect for this, just keep your turns tight, and you might get a lucky backstab in. But for most strategies to work for the spy a lot of know-how and experience help.

Do you ever get teammates to pretend they're attacking you? Is it an effective bluff?

I hope my demonstration today helped you in becoming a better spy.;)

In fact, it is quite effective. typically, someone will go for the guy shooting bullets instead of checking whether the guy is shooting at a spy.

Also, a tactic I like to use is to back into enemy places. I will usually drop from a height or something, and then run backwards for a sec (in plain view of enemies) and then turn around shouting for a medic. Usually they will think I'm legit.

Once I killed an entire invasion this way. Got healed, then waited for the medic and his demo/heavy/solider escorts to be about to go, then as soon as we were away from the sentry gun in the base, I stabbed the medic before he could uber, and killed the others before they got in range of OUR sentries.

Definitely one of my highlights as a spy :D
