Jack Thompson- DISBARRED!!!

To quote the Prophet of Truth in Halo 2:

"To those of you who said this day wouldn't come, what have you to say now?"

Good riddance to bad rubbish! September 25th 2008 will go down in history as the day that the biggest opposition to gaming Went DOWN!

I think everyone except Fox News stopped taking him seriously around the time he wrote a letter to the Take 2 Director's MOTHER telling her what her son was doing.

However, this is an acheivement, even Fox can't take him seriously now, despite how well they think of him.

As much as you may "hate" Jack Thompson, it should be important to remember that he was not disbarred for speaking out against video games. We as gamers have not won any significant battle here against the idea, the belief that video games are the root of all society's ills. Jack Thompson was disbarred for the way he presented his opinions, in a blustering, overly sensationalist and irresponsible manner.

So yes, while this may be a blow to his credibility and hamper his tools as an anti-video game violence advocate, I sincerely doubt this will silence him. And there are plenty more lawyers and politicians out there just like him.

Though you may want to envision Jack Thompson as the figurative "head" of the anti-video game sentiment, and that that head has just been decapitated, try to keep in mind that he was just one particularly vocal appendage of a many-limbed beast.

Pasta! Copied!

Agreed, what got him in hot water was the fact that he used questionable and borderline illegal tactics in the legal system to try and worm his agenda forward. Mind you, we all know that he is a liar, he's been proven wrong too often by well researched facts. However, he is the most vocal and agressive voices out there, and thankfully he is normally so obsessed about chasing his own delusional crusade to do anything constructive, except waste tax payers dollars in Louisiana and Utah.

So far many of the other critics such as Leeland Yee, Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman have either completely dropped their video game legislation - or have moved on to other forms of political pandering.

Considering we have a generation of original game players (pacman, qbert, gauntlet) who are coming into their 30's and 40's I think the mind set will change, however there is still the 'old guard' who will hear nothing of it because they were too old to play, or they never played in the first place because they were too good, too cool, or thought that only geeks and nerds played video games.

While this is a first step towards the truth, we still have an uphill battle to deal with, and frankly, the stereotypical trash spewing Middleschooler/Highschooler/college student isn't helping our cause.
