Time and time again when reading the forums (especially Tech help), I notice that folks are posting just nonsense and invaluable information, as it seem for the sole purpose of bringing up their posting quota. If you do not know the answer, or do not have something constructive to say, then do not post. In the following thread (not the thread itself, which is a good question) shows some good examples; http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=51794 (you figure it out, no need to point it out in specific). It doesn’t only clutter the thread; on top of that it doesn’t give you a good image to others as a valuable source of information. Let’s keep forums a positive and valuable source of information for all.

You have a good point. If your just repeating what others have said and have no real help please dont post anything. I know ive probably been guilty of useless posts a few times but for the most part i try to actually help people out when i post. I hate when i have a question and i get posts from people and they dont help me at all.

Think of it this way. If you have like 300 posts that dont really help solve a problem and someone else maybe has 50 really helpful posts. Who do you think people will go to for help? I myself would trust the person with the better quality.

Just remember Quality over quantity!

not all is spamming like you say in the tech forums people ASK for help and people that think they know an answer just answer some people are like me only read the problem and then answer without reading other's posts so its not spam if its staying on topic spam would be like some one saying DUDE THATS AWESOME lol that cool then they next person just saying"cool". spamming to me is eather one word post's or something straying of topic

Posting a complaint post about someome asking for help with tech issues in the tech help section is also another 30 wasted seconds i will not get back..

Dude had a problem with his computer and asked the people he plays with for some help..

I see no problem with this.

Evil-Jester,

It doesn't look you get the point. I never said "all", and I never used the word "spamming" either. I am not referring to threads where folks are being asked for their opinion, or threads to praise someone for an effort, or where new members are being welcomed. Nor do I see your reply as non valuable, but merely as a good discussion, and trying to get my point across. It is not my intent to make people afraid of posting.

Mr. PotatoCannons post just prior yours is what puzzles me, I do not get his point.

Hope this explains,

Mr.FiRESOAUCE,

Obviously you are not getting the point either. It was not the thread itself I am referring to but some of the replies in there which made the whole tread fill up with non constructive or useful information (and again there where definitely some good replies int here (fortunately). Asking for help is what this about, but not replying with comments which are no help to the requestor.

Kapish? :)

Good point. I fully understand everything, if you want post-count, go to the shoutbox where people actually don't have to look at what you say. These forums were put in place to discuss issues, suggestions, talk about new games etc..

Numbers don't mean a thing. You can have 4 thousand posts, but that does not make you a forums king.

I understand what your saying, but in this thread "http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=51794"

I read it all the way through, sounds like people are chiming in to help with the issue and offering information regarding the subject.

I dont see one post in that quoted thread that is totally off topic and meant to only get a free post ?

Im missing your point, yes.

Whats wrong with tylantt's post.
He has a issue that lags alot.

He was using that thread as an example. He is not saying ANYTHING about Tylantt. He is talking about people posting just for the sake of posting. Meaning, people just wanting to raise the little number beside their name.

The only thing that can be done to remedy this is stiffer forum board ops to lock threads based on the fact that someone thinks people are farming post count..(edit: not to say i do not think our boards are well moderated, becuase i do)

I think this thread is ridiculous as well.

There is only one post out of 16, in the thread you linked, that I would consider spam. It almost sounds as though you take it personally. I read the tech help forums a lot because most of the time I can help and I don't see spam too much nor does it bother me if someone makes a smart comment like the first post in that thread. I think you need to lighten up a little is all.

EDIT: On a second note, who cares if they pad their post count? Are you trying to compete with them?

I don't agree, there is no need to put up restrictions. We are a mature gaming community, so act like it!

I think the biggest problem is people just repeating what others have said. It annoys me when i read a question and see 8 differant people reply but 5 of the posts say pretty much the same thing.

THIS IS SPAMM! :p

I agree whole-heartedly. The majority of posters are mature individuals who are making an honest attempt to help the original poster, whether or not the thing they are recommending has already been said. There are still the few people that we will NEVER be able to get rid of that just make smartass comments thinking they are funny and in the process clutter up the topic and the board. Hopefully they will learn from our example how to properly post, or they very likely may eventually no longer be welcome here. We don't need a topic to tell us that.
