Sweet sniper skin!

What is the deal with skins for tf2. I came from a game where skins, reticles, mods were all accepted. Where as some games Anti-cheat programs will ban you for life on the spot. Is there a vast source of skins for tf2 which anyone can use? And if there is where does one draw the line on what is allowed and not allowed? Skins help a lot because I am some what colour blind, according to my eye doctor :). I have already gotten extremely good at sniping like most games, skins just give that extra edge. Any knowledge on the issue is much appreciated. :)

eGO policy is that skins are OK, as long as they do not give the player an obvious advantage. We do keep an eye out for other mods, like aimbots, wallhacks, etc... and we can typically tell if someone has a mod that gives them an unfair advantage (i.e. a skin that extends shadows so you can tell if someone is coming around a corner), and we ban those players.
However, for a skin that just changes the appearance of players, we don't have a problem. In many games, stealth is important, and a skin can make a camouflage player more visible. TF2 is not a game like that, and no one (not even the spy) relies on camouflage for kills (the spy disguises as an enemy player, and the skin changes as well). Therefore, kicking or banning for skins isn't really necessary. Skins that give a in game advantage are taken on a case by case basis.
FPS banana seems to be the best source of skins, but a word of warning: Scan all files you download there with a good virus scanner!

In terms of mods, I was referring to scripts that help increase fps and reduce lag, which I used for other games, not sure if this exists for tf2. I was not referring in any way to any cheat, which I do not consider a “mod”. Anyways, I will try that website, thanks. If anyone knows a more “safe” website please let me know.

Sweetums, sounds awesome but i dont see the point of silenced due to it not silenceing it for OTHER people, it just makes it harder for you to know there are other snipers trying to shoot at you...or a sniper at all

Ok, I really want this. I downloaded the file and tried to follow the tutorial on FPSB but I'm just not that bright i guess. The tutorial says to extract the downloaded file into the weapon folder. This is where I drop the ball. How do I extract it?

I used to have that skin. It won the Sniper Rifle design contest there, and for good reason. I got rid of it because I can't stand going into other servers where they don't allow custom animations, which give you that wireframe stuff.

Haha by a mile..You can tell the creator put alot of effort into the model compared to the others.
Though that's exactly the same reason why i also dropped it, it shows wireframe on pure servers. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon

That's pretty cool.

Hey, I don't know much about skins and stuff, but do other people see what skins you've put on?

You're lucky. I don't even HAVE a weapons folder..?
i.e I get to materials, but there's no models folder from there, nor any weapons folder.
So I made a new one, with a new weapons folder in that, followed by the v_[weaponname] file.
Haz I got wrong?
