Once upon a slow news day.

Once upon a time (this morning), a young college student picked up her university's newspaper to work out the Sudoku puzzle while waiting for her first class. First, she thought she would check the news. Sports. Sports. Sports. Lame. Oh, wait, what's this? she thought as she looked at a small article.

Therein she spotted an article covering a small Team Fortress 2 tournament between her college and another. Thankfully, she was able to find it online so she wouldn't have to type up the entire article. Which she wouldn't have been able to do anyway, because she got so frustrated with the Sudoku puzzle that she threw the whole paper away after her business law class.

Of course, my college lost. Apparently our TF2 team isn't as good as our football team at the moment.

So, my question to all of you guys is: if you attend college (or possibly even high school), have you ever done this type of thing (TF2 or a different game), or have you heard of a group within your college/high school doing this? If you've attended one, how'd it go? What was it like?

I often wonder how many gamers are even in my college haha...
You know, Acturbo, I think it's cool that you mentioned this, it's something that crosses my mind. I've never done any tourney thing according to the college I go to or any cross college tourneys. We do have a pretty cool student newspaper though, but farthest it'd go over is like.. indie music/movies.

that would have been great! unfortunately at UVa all we had for new games was TFC and I think gaming was just too new to form up a college team.

I never really heard of anything like that myself until I read that article. It would be cool if college gaming tournaments became more popular. It'd give me something to do/watch until baseball season, anyway.

I'd like my college newspaper more if sports wasn't the topic of 75% of the articles, and if people would use spell check before sending in their replies to articles and editorials. And if the newspaper staff would quit printing the replies of people who still haven't learned proper capitalization. Stop (the presses)! Grammar time!

Yeah, it is pretty neat. This was the first time I've ever heard of an intercollegiate tournament, so I hope it becomes more widespread and common.
