I can only buy one of them right now but i have a hard time picking one :/

so i need the community opinion on this :D

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Hard Drive: 240 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

What are the specs of your current rig? Then we can tell you which is more of an upgrade.
 
I'd say the RAM would be more of an upgrade. I mean as long as games run smooth, don't "fix it."

If they lag, Graphics Card.
 
hmm well when i play NFS:UC my busy light always comes up..guessing that i need more ram right?
 
Busy light, or it freezes and glitches?

Check the command prompt when playing the game, see how much it's using.
 
Getting myself new RAM and Hard drive, sometimes hard drive might be the problem on some stuttering also. If your having low FPS its your graphic card, if your having some problems playing (like having smooth FPS then stutters or something that makes it go down to 1-25 FPS) its the Ram/Hard drive/CPU

I doubt that its your CPU, probably the hard drive/RAM.

ah ok i think ill get the RAM then if it doesnt improve ill probly trade it for the Gfx card
 
well if its between those 2 things, i would go with the ram...

with the video card you have now, to the "upgrade" there wouldnt be much of a difference... same with the 9600... not an upgrade really.

Unless you want to go to an 8800 or 9800, that will help alot for video cards

Lol Hardhat, I think he would rather get the 4670HD ATi radeon instead, same price and better.

RAM would be your target if your stuttering, or any other FPS problems.

If you want more FPS/smooth gaming, go with the Graphic card.
 
no dont go with the video card. from what your running at now, to what you would be getting, its not worth it. You wont see much of a great difference.
 
People stop suggesting the video card, his card is great enough to play the clan games, he needs a new RAM.

Your 8500GT is good...

I suggest RAM cause some games uses a whole load amount of ram, (stranglehold >.>), so I think RAM is the best get right now when they are still cheap.
 
If you are looking to play newer games, 8600 GT will be extremely mediocre for above average resolutions.

Getting 4 gigs of ram seems like the better idea at the moment but make sure you are running 64 Bit of the operating system.

Going back to the video card, 8 series are good and I have a rig that runs one as well but there are just way better cards out there now.
 
yeah, if you get any new video card i would suggest a 4850, 4870, or 4850 x2. 4870x2 probably isnt in your price range.
 
good idea. are you sure that your running that frequency right now?

The RAM operates at a certain frequency (i.e. 400, 1066,1333, 800) and to use the RAM correctly, you have to buy the right frequency. You also have to make sure that you can support 4GB of RAM, cause some boards cannot, like mine
