YouTube Now Mutes Videos With Unauthorized Copyrighted Music

Wow, can't believe that they would do that, good bye AMV videos and well... pretty much all user made videos with music.

They have done this for a while, I know videos containing the song "We didn't start the fire" which is a popular song to make videos to have been muted for a while at least.

I don't think you need a worry, its just one blog entry of a person who found a rule he hasn't seen. Something this big would be all over the place if it was just initiated.

Personally, I think that Youtube is wayyyy up its own behind. It removes videos using footage from movies (which is ridiculous, because any video posted can be considered private use or public without profit) and they immediately remove even the slightest copyright problems.
Sighh, getting lamer and lamer.

it has been happening on rockband and GH videos everywhere

I made a picture video of one of my favorite disturbed songs a while back. Get this, there was similar picture-videos with 1000x (yes, that is ONE THOUSAND TIMES) more views than I had, and mine got removed due to a "copyright complaint" Really? Well those guys are smart. I suppose they figure that less views means more profit stealing.

Too bad some exec won't be able to buy another house in the Hamptons this year... a new Rolls Royce box-car will have to suffice.

Now watch, in a few months these same people will be caught for war profiteering or embezzling. *sigh* Capitalism is the new communism.

Actually Para, if you look up Copyright fair use on wiki there is a study which says that fair use generates about 4.5 trillion in revenue. So, few people make some money, and it is not much because people will not license the songs to do something they do for free and on their own time, while sacrificing a ton of revenue for all of us. This is just stupid and it will hurt them in the long run, much more then they would make.

On September 12, 2007, the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA),[20] a group representing companies including Google Inc., Microsoft Inc.,[21] Oracle Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Yahoo[22] and other high tech companies, released a study that found that Fair Use exceptions to US copyright laws were responsible for more than $4,500 Billion dollars in annual revenue for the United States economy representing one-sixth of the total U.S. GDP.[20] The study was conducted using a methodology developed by the World Intellectual Property Organization.[20] The study found that fair use dependent industries are directly responsible for more than 18% of U.S. economic growth and nearly 11 million American jobs.[20]

Because people who own the rights to those songs are getting jipped out of more house shaped cars that guzzle gas like a fish at a bar. It's about money.
