Notice of Virus/Phishing

So, it appears that there is a "new" phishing/hijacking/virus URL going around Steam. If someone sends you a message advertising a website called winsteamgames.gu.ma don't click it. The message comes something like:

"look what i found winsteamgames.gu.ma it takes awhile to load... "

If you ask if its safe, the person will respond that it is, but then sign out about a minute later. That being said, the person who sent you that message most likely has their account hijacked. So please make yourself aware of this...maybe its nothing, maybe its something.

Yes, I'm aware of that thread...but this situation doesn't involve someone merely asking for your steam information over a message. In that scenario, it would seem relatively obvious that something dubious is going on. In this situation, it can appear harmless, especially since people who ask if its safe receive an affirmative response. I myself wasn't fooled, but I already know of several people on my friends list who have been. I thought it was better to make a topic, considering the people on my friends list who have been hijacked are ego server regulars, than just simply ignore that potentially more people may fall for it. I'd like to err on the side of caution, even if it means adding just one more thread to the several hundred on this board.

The people who make these scams, are not dumb, their just mean. They know people will wise on eventually if they use the same scam everyday.

I promise you, in a few days it'll change into another message asking you to go to different URL.

Making threads saying watch out for this guy, don't help as much as you'd think. A quick name change and you'll never know the difference between the person your watching out for, and another eGO member.

You really cant say that this doesnt help. There are many people who are new to the steam community, and might fall prey to these scams. To avert this from happening is not only beneficial now, but you are indirectly educating them for future scams. Like i said, thanks Ronin.
