Has anyone made one?

I've been playing DoD since way before source came out and there's a lot of things that only come with experience.

A part of me wants to keep that to myself so you can't kill me with it :p, but I have the heart of a teacher and enjoy helping others.

So I've considered writing a detailed tutorial, with everyones help of course, regarding general game-play, weapon-specific / map-specific info etc.

I can even envision a boot-camp where we can set up a date and time and teach an in-game class on some of the techniques for some of the new guys that come on and just get royally owned.

Just throwing it out there, I might write some things up anyways, post them and let you guys comment and add to it as we go, but if someones already made one then it would be a good template to work with.

Feedback?

there are already several threads that have attempted to help newbies in a variety of situations, one could probably pool all those together

the in-game training sounds like fun though

if you can't find a good tutorial thread somewhere in the forum, im sure steam made one on their forums, on steampowered, or just other ones over the internet

This might prove hard, especially since accuracy is key. A CAL player may teach a noob how to go about playing a map, but if a CAL player can do something and kill someone with it, a noob most likely can't.

I think I'm going to take this to a whole new level as far as being thorough.

Certainly there is no one way to play, but I do ok, usually ranked 300-500, around 6500 points give or take, so I should be able to offer a novice player an edge. Theres nothing more frustrating than trying to learn a new game and have pros slaughter you mercilessly. Why do you think newbies camp so much? They're afraid! lol.

Anyway, the beauty of it is that forum members can have input on whats in it, so it won't just be my own perspective.

I started it last night. I'll post each section/subsection as a separate post so that the feedback I get is focused on that one area.

I'm also pretty excited about the in-game school. Not sure where/how we can get private server time to show people some things, but I guarantee no other clan anywhere does that.

Anyway, heres the intro portion of the guide so far (subject to change and lots of revision:

Well, apparently a one page word document is too big to upload. I'll put it up once I find a host. Into isn't very interesting, but look for the subsequent sections to be posted as they are completed for your input and feedback.

Haven't forgotten, going to start posting content today, the intro at least, and the second section "basic setup" tomorrow, which covers things like adjusting brightness, selecting a crosshair, what the console is and how to use it, setting up your keyboards etc etc.

I'm going to make each subsection a seperate post so that I can get clean feedback on only that section to make it easier to sift through and make corrections.

Look forward to your help!

Well, I dunno about the rest of us, but if you're interested in "BAD" rifle skills (lol point and click) I can teach a FEW players personally....but it's really not a lot of teaching required..but hey, if I can help a few people, cool.

I currently don't have a mic YET but later this week I should be available for this, so pm me if you'd like.

It would mostly consist of us travelling to through a few servers in ego, and I can teach basic strategies of each map as I know them, plus some little tips and tricks that can really improve your ...killing efficiency... haha for lack of a better word, simply, tactics.

I am only accepting the first few replies though, but if anyone else out there wants to help, I'm sure your post is welcome here...finding others with time though...hehe

Well, none of this as such or thus far is sanctioned by eGO. Doing it on my own with input from the forum.

I think once I get the "curriculum" written then maybe we can make it more official and set up some in-game sessions. It becomes a bit tricky to do if you're trying to teach people while there is a live game going or if there's a full server, so I'm not sure how it'll work out in the end.

Maybe it will just be on a case by case basis.

Anyways, here is the intro, super basic, I'll start posting real content tomorrow.

Wow, that free upload service sucks, if anyone has a better one let me know. Files are too big to upload to this server.

In the CS:S Division they had something called Basic Training, and with the Houses gone and this division closer together mayhaps we could gather up the guys who are great with a certain gun type and have them teach others who arent as good with that gun.

Sounds like a good idea ;)
when I was in the 5th Ranger Battalion, I really enjoyed the basic training. So yeah in game training is always fun :D

Bump

Everythings still in full swing, I'm still working on new content although I haven't posted any in a few days.

Currently putting together all the in-game stuff like keyboard actions, basics like compensating for recoil while aiming, techniques like strafing and crouching, and strategies like camping, rushing, retreat, retreat-then-rush etc.

Feedback is welcome! Remember this is a very rough draft. The entire guide will go through at least 2 more revisions to correct spelling, grammar and content.
