My brother typed something in console quite a while ago telling me it would help lower game load times. Well it turns out it took out some sounds. I hear normal gameplay sounds, but not any others, like music at the game or quake sounds. I looked through my config, and couldn't find anything, but I might not be looking hard enough, or even know what it looks like. I've also reinstalled. Any ideas on how to fix this?

If anything, reinstall. It won't take long and it will fix whatever issue it is.

Yah reinstall and if that doesn't work locate your counter-strike: source folder on your hard drive and delete it.

I'm not sure with Vista but with XP its:

MY COMPUTER > PROGRAM FILES > STEAM > STEAMAPPS > [ACCOUNT NAME] > COUNTER-STRIKE:SOURCE (DELETE THAT!)

he said he reinstalled already..

try finding out what your brother used for console command first either ask him or just google css console commands and manually find the command.

Well it was done over a year ago, so he doesn't remember the command, and I can't seem to find it on google (or I'm not doing it right, which is always possible :) )

Go into console (~) and type in "cl_allowdownload 1" without quotations.
Hope I helped :)

Edit: Wait.. CSS or TF2? I assume you meant CSS since this is the section for it, but I just saw that you're a TF2 division member, so got confused.

he means css title says all lol

Riiight. Should've noticed that :P
And the allowupload is for disabling/enabling decal uploads to connecting members, I think.

Im sure there is some kind of repair you can find. Look in your program files.

Um... Could have to do with your actual audio drivers/speakers. Cause i know when i dont have mine in 5.1 surround sound it cuts out some of my sounds. So play around with that a bit, im not sure. First time ive ever heard of this problem.

"cl_downloadfilter none" Try that, if not delete your "sound" map in ->

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\USERNAME/EMAIL\counter-strike source\cstrike

cl_downloadfilter none = no extra sounds/skins/maps downloaded
cl_downloadfilter nosound(s?) = no extra sounds downloaded
cl_downloadfilter all = all skins/sounds/maps/etc. downloaded
