So, all the parts for my new computer have been ordered. Some, unfortunately, are backordered, specifically the solid state drive that will be running my OS and games, and the RAM. But, the ETA for all the parts at the latest is about 3 weeks. Then I'll be back and better than ever on the TF2 servers...

My future baby:

Asus M3a78-T Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 940 quad-core processor
4g (2gx2) Mushkin HPII 800 mhz RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2gb 4870 X2
64 gig solid state drive for OS and gaming
1 tb SATA drive for storage


And, thanks to my fiance not knowing how to clear internet history, I found out that she ordered me a 23 inch widescreen 1080p full HD LCD to replace my clunky old 19" CRT (seriously the thing won't die, it's 7 years old and the image is still pristine, I'll keep it for a backup or future use). I admitted to her that I found it, figuring honesty would be good, right? I got yelled at for ruining the surprise, just 'cause I was going to tigerdirect to price out parts and noticed that it was in the history already with pages named "order history" and "login" and such...obvious evidence that something had been purchased, and I didn't get anything through tigerdirect. -sigh- Women.

I got that same GPU and I'll tell you right now, It's freaking awesome.
 
I know what you mean about the CRT not dieing. I had mine for 11 years before it finally went out on me lol.

And the point of the post was less tech braggery than it was letting my cohorts know I'm gonna be back soon. This is gonna be a miserable few weeks waiting for everything to get here. The sad part is that new monitor is gonna be here in like 3 days, and I get to sit and stare at it for 3 weeks before I can use it.
 
All i can say is im running a phenom Ii , got it the day it came out , its insane man. As for the SSd nice to have 0ms access time , but fyi , i heard 2x raptors still out perform it . and i know the 74gig raptors r like 99 on ne

I hadn't heard that about the raptors, but knowing that I won't have to deal with a raid array plus the fact that this SSD is cheaper than two of those raptors would be, I guess I'll call it even.
 
this is tru , the difference is lik,e this ,. ssd is 0 access time , raptors @ raid0 is 2ms responcetime , but overall performance , te raptors will be faster , the otherthing is , 200$ would get you both raptors :) either way your rig , but just throwin it out there
 
Yeah, that's just it. Sure they'll have better read/write throughput, but eh. The SSD was more about me just trying out a new technology. Plus, I'd feel a little more secure with a single SSD than a raid 0 array; lose one HDD lose them both. Twice the chance of failure since either of the two HDD's might crash. But mostly I just wanted to try something cutting-edge that my last computer didn't have.
 
agreed , i support it , just wanted to make sure you knew all the options , and btw , please tell me how that SSd turns out to be PLEASE i kinda wanted to run one , but im waiting to see how the perform , let me know, andi wonder SSD @ raid0 ?
