so here is what i have

http://www.dvhardware.net/news/msi_radeon_hd_4850.jpg

it was getting very hot recently 100C + So i researched around and before i went all out and bought a aftermarket cooler i decided to dust it out because some people said that the big plastic cover with the demon guy on it, could clog up the airways that cool it off, so i did, and as i was blowing it out, a thin layer of plastic started peeling off the hard plastic cover with the demon guy on it. It looked kinda of useless and it was hitting the fan now so i peeled it all the way off. It looks like it was just to protect the hard plastic casing from scratches or somthing. So i dunno what it was so can anyone tell me what this is and if its important and a bad idea that i took it off?

on the plus side, a ton of dust came out of the card and now it runs at 60-70 instead of 100+ :D

once again, im not talking about anything solid coming of the card, just some layer of clear plastic cover that peeled of the hard flat surface with the demon graphic like a sticker.

Is it literally just a clear, thin, plastic sticker that covered the artwork? If yes, then you are fine. It came on my old video card as well and I had no problems with my RMA. I did have an nVidia, but I doubt that matters in this case.

There is a driver fix for that problem, easily could of been fixed lol.

HuH What? Dont confuse people on here. Someone will probly mention this later on down the line now. They will be like hey having temp problems download the latest drivers it will fix them.

ya it wont... but it can fix your fan speeds but idk :P
the thin layer is just like a thing that makes it look new, it came on mine as well its ok to tear off

ya, they have had adjustable fan speed in their drivers for quite some time now. i run at 65% and before i dusted i had at like 75 just for idle

Vader, if you want to increase your post count, please do so in the off-topic thread. This thread is where people come to get help on stuff they don't know about, so only post if you know. Thanks.
