Before I joined (which was today), I played on the eGO 2Fort server quite often and the Payload server a few times. I loved the atmosphere generated by the eGO members and I appreciated the fact that when there was talking, it wasn't mindless chatter and it wasn't ignorant babble. It was actual in-game communication about the game - something I don't see often.
Throughout the course of a few months, I unknowingly played in a few other eGO servers here and there and I noticed that all of the people in the game seemed to react rather well to the rules applied. It seemed that a mutual respect was generated while in any of these servers through everyone - members and non-members alike. Not only did it make the experience that much better, but it also made me want to find that same server and play in it again as opposed to randomly surfing the Internet game list.
So last night I was in the 2Fort server and was playing with a few eGO members. Almost two hours later and I am over 250 points ahead of the rest. By the time I hit 400 points, I call it a night. During the game, one of the eGO members (Jaxory) adds me and asks if I would like to join. He/She sends me the link and the information required to submit an application.
Today I decided to play some TF2 before I requested to join eGO. Played a few servers, had some fun, then stopped to put in my application.
Here is where it gets a bit odd. After I was accepted and added the clan tag to my name, I join a few games and suddenly I am public enemy #1. The servers I had played in not three hours prior were still filled with the people I had played with prior to joining eGO, yet this time I join, all I receive is "Oh great, another =e= guy" as opposed to the "Oh hey, Stg. Come back for another round?" I received before. As I started surfing a few different servers, it became apparent that the =e= members (not =eG= or =eGO=) are known for bad manners in servers not hosted by eGO. I even had the unfortunate experience to witness a few of these conflicts and arguments between server hosts/admins and new eGO members. During one of the conflicts, everyone in the game (both teams) were shouting for the admin to kick all eGO members and ban them from that server. A universal "just gtfo" rang out when I tried to quell the situation. Needless to say, it was a reaction I wasn't expecting to hear directed at someone only trying to remedy the situation as opposed to adding fuel to the already-burning fire.
In short, through the twelve different servers I was just in, nine of them displayed only hostility towards me just because of the clan tag. They didn't even take into account that as a sniper, I hit over 60 points and reached spot #1 in less than two games or the fact that I was constantly switching to Heavy just to provide a meatshield for our engineers while they built sentries. During the games where people verbally displayed the hostility, the two phrases I heard most were "Just put him on mute, he'll lie to us anyway, all =eGO= members do" and "Ugh, not another =e= guy".
Is it just me, or does it seem to anyone else that =e= members are giving this community a bad name while playing in non-eGO servers?
