Universally Hated Now?

Before I joined (which was today), I played on the eGO 2Fort server quite often and the Payload server a few times. I loved the atmosphere generated by the eGO members and I appreciated the fact that when there was talking, it wasn't mindless chatter and it wasn't ignorant babble. It was actual in-game communication about the game - something I don't see often.

Throughout the course of a few months, I unknowingly played in a few other eGO servers here and there and I noticed that all of the people in the game seemed to react rather well to the rules applied. It seemed that a mutual respect was generated while in any of these servers through everyone - members and non-members alike. Not only did it make the experience that much better, but it also made me want to find that same server and play in it again as opposed to randomly surfing the Internet game list.

So last night I was in the 2Fort server and was playing with a few eGO members. Almost two hours later and I am over 250 points ahead of the rest. By the time I hit 400 points, I call it a night. During the game, one of the eGO members (Jaxory) adds me and asks if I would like to join. He/She sends me the link and the information required to submit an application.

Today I decided to play some TF2 before I requested to join eGO. Played a few servers, had some fun, then stopped to put in my application.

Here is where it gets a bit odd. After I was accepted and added the clan tag to my name, I join a few games and suddenly I am public enemy #1. The servers I had played in not three hours prior were still filled with the people I had played with prior to joining eGO, yet this time I join, all I receive is "Oh great, another =e= guy" as opposed to the "Oh hey, Stg. Come back for another round?" I received before. As I started surfing a few different servers, it became apparent that the =e= members (not =eG= or =eGO=) are known for bad manners in servers not hosted by eGO. I even had the unfortunate experience to witness a few of these conflicts and arguments between server hosts/admins and new eGO members. During one of the conflicts, everyone in the game (both teams) were shouting for the admin to kick all eGO members and ban them from that server. A universal "just gtfo" rang out when I tried to quell the situation. Needless to say, it was a reaction I wasn't expecting to hear directed at someone only trying to remedy the situation as opposed to adding fuel to the already-burning fire.

In short, through the twelve different servers I was just in, nine of them displayed only hostility towards me just because of the clan tag. They didn't even take into account that as a sniper, I hit over 60 points and reached spot #1 in less than two games or the fact that I was constantly switching to Heavy just to provide a meatshield for our engineers while they built sentries. During the games where people verbally displayed the hostility, the two phrases I heard most were "Just put him on mute, he'll lie to us anyway, all =eGO= members do" and "Ugh, not another =e= guy".

Is it just me, or does it seem to anyone else that =e= members are giving this community a bad name while playing in non-eGO servers?

I do not think so. If we hear of any such thing we remove those members. eGO rules apply when the tag is on, no matter where you are.

A lot of servers do not like us because some of their players come to our server, break the rules, and are removed. We have banned so many people, letters have been sent to Steam to remove our servers because we ban so much. Then they get upset at us. Also, some do not like the success we have had. And some outright hate the rules we had.

If you can, stay on our servers. If not, while on other servers you can remove your tags if you wish to.

I wish no such thing. If anything, I would like to try and sway their mindset of what eGO is. I can tolerate the ignorant hate-speeches long enough to Dominate someone and then tell them that their bigotry gets in the way of skill. If anything, I hope to redeem our name on some of the servers that dislike us.

As for playing on just our servers, ours are usually full and I can't get in. On a rare occasion I will refresh the list and two spots will be open, but that doesn't happen often.

After finding the eGO servers, I have only played on another server once. And to extreme dissatisfaction. You are always welcome to remove your tag while on other servers because some people are not happy with our servers. Just remember to put it back on while you play in our servers. What you have to understand is that in order to keep our servers the best servers around, we have to exclude certain unsavory characters from participating. These specific individuals are often upset that they aren't allowed to do whatever the hell they want and get away with it like they can with the rest of the internet. Instead of realizing that they're being worthless punks and that everyone would be much happier without them, they take their aggression out on us.

In regards to e's being specifically picked out compared to admins, that should simply show the kind of attitude we look for where promotions are concerned.

Edit: Also, with the TF2 servers you can set it up to auto-connect you to a full server as soon as there is a spot. When I play TF2, I join whatever server isn't empty because they're all fun.

Honestly, this has never happened to me what-so-ever. We know how some people absolutely hate our guts for politely asking them to stop any immature behavior (still remember the mic spamming of "BOOM HEADSHAUUUUT").
But we do that for a reason, and it is to give mature gamers the experience that they need without some 9 year old (who in my opinion should not be playing a game with people's limbs being exploded into more than 5 pieces) playing TF2 AND BEING A DEMOMAN (lots of blood in that class).

Just give a HOOT, and i'll help you with your buffalo wings.

and don't worry about the "e" rep, because we did used to have a couple deviants (like me!) who couldn't control them selves at the time, Ninjafluff should know when i crit-punched Kody accidentally during an Admin Session which completely cost my chance of getting my admin powers.

(and like the previous post, feel free to temporary remove your tag on other servers, but make sure you wear the correct one on our servers)

PS: i love you NinjaFluff, this post is absolutely cold and is not flaming you

Good luck on swaying the populace's view of eGO. Several times in the past eGO has been attacked in forums even when the topic didn't start having anything to do with us. And eGO members responded respectfully and tried to explain our position and the reasoning behind our actions, but they always refer back to some moment when some masked admin banned them laughing the whole time in a situation that would not have flown on our servers. Others , as it was said earlier, just flat out talk us down for being too big sometimes comparing to corporations.

In the end I guess if you want to good luck to you, you are braver than I. Just remember to not get over zealous with it. Even though talking to brick walls is frustrating :chair:

No worries. Even brick walls can crumble from small vibrations. Just takes a while and I am extremely persistent and very patient. :)

unfortunatly, i have heard the "o another -e- guy" before. But i dont think it was meant in the same way.

We normally uphold a very high expectation for all of our players, I hope that this isnt how the rest of the community see's us.

But from what i have seen and heard, it is not, at all!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I haven't been here long, but I can tell you that the best way to combat it is to do so by behavior. We hold all our members to a higher standard because they wear the tag.

You could actually look at it as a good thing. Our community is absolutely huge. We have an amazing amount of active members, sponsors, great members who are there to help at a moments notice, and we have a fair discipline and review process. The fact is that we can, and do watch over our own. We have expectations of mature behavior and honor from them. There will always be those few who moan and groan about that. But the fact still remains that they know who you represent. Envy, immaturity, etc... who knows,... doesn't matter.

Be yourself, wear the tag with pride and represent and above all have fun and enjoy. "Old guy wisdom" tells me the rest always takes care of itself.

Ive had the opposite experience of stg, usually if i go on a different server, people either dont comment at all or mention their likes of the eGO servers. Then again i mostly play DoD.

i only play on the ego and ligs severs, unfortunately the Australian servers are plain and full of idiots, but so far ive had no troubles as an e. in fact i remember one of the ligs admin complementing the ego servers

Haven't read previous posts but I can tell you this.
The majority of people that hate our members are the people who have been banned (or kicked) from our server. A friend of mine who isn't in the clan invited me to some sort of scrim where we showed off our skills to determine who was best.

It was a total of 18 players and I can tell you that about 14 of them hated me and the clan I represented. They taunted our clan and our rules. I explained why we kept our rules and then shut up about it. I was in no place to argue. My friend told me I could leave if I wanted to but I decided to stay and ended up being MVP in 4/5 scrims we played in. And while I was in the server, guess what I heard? Micspamming of music about 80% of the game, f-bombs and n-words being thrown casually around, and much more.

Why do I love eGO servers? Because of our rules. I hate micspamming, I don't see cussing as necessary. You might be old enough to use it but you should be mature enough not to. And racism shouldn't ever be acceptable. And although our clans don't really have a minimum "skill" level I find that the majority of our clan members are more skilled than others.

We've learned to play together and we've learned to fight against each other. For all you hardcore eGO members, try joining a pub server sometime. You'd be surprised how much easier it is to kill someone in a random server than an eGO server.

We're not universally hated. We're hated by the ones who couldn't follow our rules. They're the minority that people hate playing with because they're annoying and rude. Remember that we're one of the most popular clans out there running the most popular servers. People come to our servers because they respect us. People keep coming back because we're a mature gaming community.

People who cant take a bit of rules will just start offending them who obey the rules.

Just try to find some servers where people wont be total idiots, or no one ever says anything, it's better than nothing.

"lol ruls r 4 nubs". Woah, that actually rhymed.

I joined eGO because I love the rules. I used to admin for an anti-cheating clan during the Allied Assault: Spearhead demo and I was HATED because I upheld our no swearing, no cheating/glitching and such other rules.

People who hate us:

Either are jealous that we are such a large clan. I mean, I tried making a clan once and it never got past 3 people; me and two friends, hehe. I think the website (my horrible attempt at making something LIKE a website, that is) still exists. Man, some thing will haunt ya forever. :scared:

Were in our servers, broke the rules, and feel like we are 'evil' (for lack of being able to say a better word) for not letting them do what they want. :facewall:

Were in our community and got kicked out for, what else? Thinking they could do what they wanted because they joined our community. Or perhaps felt our rules did not apply to them in non eGO servers while they wore the tag, and word got back to the eGO's here. :chair: (This one is more hypothetical on my part. I have not heard of it happening but, people being people + 'teh interwebz' = )

Or had a friend who acted like a total fool, got banned, and they feel their friend is always in the right. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for sticking by ones friends, but getting angry that they were punished for breaking rules is..silly.

You are a brave man for trying to sway peoples opinions but remember:
Idiocy can be strong.
It is the stupid man who always assumes he is right.
The idiots are not a majority (thank gourd), but they are really, really loud. So keep those mute commands handy, eG and eGO's! ;)

A lot of people hate us because (a) we're big, (b) we're awesome, and (c) we probably banned either them or one of their friends from our servers because they broke a rule.

We are by no means drill sergeants when it comes to enforcing rules, but if someone deliberately breaks one of our rules, they have to face the consequences, and we have to enforce them on our servers. For some reason, some people hate that about us. For every person that hates us, though, there are over two dozen servers full of people every night that really enjoy our community. You know you run good servers when it's standing room only after about 7pm CST on all the TF2 eGO servers. I think it's great that our servers are that popular!

Don't dwell on the haters. We have a very loyal following as well. :)

It can be somewhat jarring for new members who return to old servers with the tags. There is a lot of anger amongst a sizable number of players who have met the business end of an eGO banhammer over the 2+ years eGO has been running.

It's interesting because there are literally thousands of servers. And yet people hold such a vile hatred for being banned on ours. After more than a year of playing here and belonging here, more and more I'm seeing through the hate and realizing at the core is pure jealousy. Our servers are some of the most competitive around; we attract great, mature players.

When we cut the punks out of the loop, banning them from being apart of that great gameplay - basically kicking them out of the club - they get extremely hurt and turn extremely angry. It never goes away. That should say something about our great community.

And this has been mentioned many times, but you can just remove the tag if you want to play in other servers without the threat of conflict. You're playing TF2 to have fun, so whether on our servers or not, we at eGO expect you to enjoy yourselves.
