DSL connection being spastic......

So my game time has gone down quite a bit due to an internet problem.

Last several times I've played I've thought I was lagging out a lot, but I havn't because my ping is quite low.

1) So I thought it was my graphics card that was making my picture all jumpy and laggy looking. I tweeked it some and still had the same results.

2) So I check out to see my memory performance during in game play and it's only taking up 1.3 gigs of my whole 8 gigs of memory...so that is out of the picture.

3) So I thought it was my wireless card, making me hard wire my internet from modem to ethernet card.....same results.....jumpy/laggy look on the moniter.

4) Tried turing off my modum and computer and let it reset, cool off, and whatever.....didn't help at all.

5) I know it's not DoD:S cus I get the same issue in CS:S, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, and Fallout 3.

6) I switched over to my laptop, and WoW works just fine, but not any Steam game.....

I'm out of ideas, so Open Forum on what to do?
 
From what I see, all I can say is is try cleaning out your computer.
Specs would be helpful though.
 
It isn't your DSL connection if single player games like Fallout 3 lag as well.

Specs would be helpful, and drivers.

Also, try using this command in console: net_graph 3. Observe the numbers at the bottom of the screen, mainly "Choke" and "Loss". If any of these numbers increase higher than 20 for a long period of time, you have a problem with DSL as well.
 
Ok, I think I found the problem. I took my laptop and connected to the internet on my college campus and the games work a whole lot better. So I believe it is my modem. I watched the lights as I had the game running and the internet light was blinking....which it never had done before. So any suggestions or thoughts on this? I'll try and got my specs on my desktop when I get home.
 
The internet light is supposed to blink on most machines - that's normal. It means you're sending and receiving information.
 
what is sounds like is something hardware related. you said your ping was low, but performance was still bad. so thats NOT your net connection. maybe you just have your setting too high and need to lower them. if you had these setting the same as always and it just started presenting this problem, most likely there was a hardware failure either in your vid card or you added something to your rig, sappin your powah! but really, do some stress tests and see how it does. if you have vista, test for system rating. if it goes down from what you had before, than somthing may have "snapped"
 
If Fallout 3 is lagging, it's probably not your internet
You should just try Freeing up Disk Space and maybe Defragmenting your harddrive
 
So obviously I got this issue fixed. It happened to be the cooling fan on my graphics card. The bearings inside it were bad which made the fan not spin corretly. This in turn allowed the graphic card to over heat and just slow down a lot. I ended up getting a different brand in there and now it works like a swimmer in water....slick, fast, and yeah.....
