here's a thread for all of us who love the new weapon system :)

Ofc. i wanna get my unlockables NOW!!! but then again this new system really works out for me. It will get people to play more till they get all the new unlockables, but then some will quit on the way...
But why i like it is i have time to try out all the new unlockables i get, instead of going into an achievement server and get all at one time. Now i have time to try out the dead ringer for example and get to know it till i get my next one.

Why i love it also is that is recruires time and not 30 minutes in a achievement server. this recruires lots of gaming hours.

why do you love it? and why do you hate it?

I personally hate the new system. You can spend eight hours unlocking the new achievements(The legal way...) and not unlock any of the new weapons, while someone who joins and plays for 12 minutes unlocks the huntsman and leaves you like "._." because you've been working for so long and have gotten nothing out of it. So, I personally don't like the new system, but I'm sure those of you who do have your own reasons for liking it.

I'm hoping Valve implements a system where you can pick up unlockables off of dead bodies, that'd make things much easier. Or give us back the achievements to unlock them, in addition to the random drop.

I swear I ran over one and got it ... it was the FaN ... but maybe it was just coincidence.

FYI -- I would not get SCOUT updates any other way ... don't play scout enough cuz I don't think it's fun. But at least now I have the FaN :)

I don't like it at all.
I can appreciate WHY valve would implement it, but now it just feels too easy. Even players that already have certain items are being 'given' them again which they're finding frustrating.
eg. I was playing as a heavy and randomly was awarded the pyro's flare gun, i'd unlocked all of those within the first week of that update. :-(

It seems to have no relevance to either the class you are playing or the way you play. One thing i will give valve credit for is that it means not everyone has to play as a spy/sniper in order to get the items.
But once players have got these items they're going to spend several weeks using them anyway, which results in servers being swamped by spy's & snipers and just counters what may have been a good idea in the first place.

I can see why a lot of people that think TF2's gone down too much of an RPG path and for some part i agree. I know different people will have different opinions and this is just me looking at the system as it stands now. Yes, i do realize that it's only been in effect <24hrs, but from first glances, I'm not keen.

I have no control of when I get the unlock or what I get, and I already have all the others. So having no control over when I get the stuff really annoys me, especially when I see somone find a second new unlock that they will just delete. If they want it to be accessible to all players, just give us the damn things straight away.

Do you pick up the new weapons or is it they randomly show up in your inventory after a random amount of time?

Personally,
I Hate it!
The fact i could sit there, for 10 hours for example, and i could have one item, which i already have, in that 10 hour farm, then someone joins, grabs the huntsman and then leaves all happy and joyful.
All that time you have spent, playing, yes for fun and because you want to, but have wanted to have the new weapons, has gone out the window for this one person who may of just got the game, gets this new weapon which he may not even know about.

Personally, they should bring the milestones back!
They have made this Newb friendly.
if these new players wants this new items, achievement farm them!
this is not a fair system, its about as broken as the UK Goverment.

I really like it, once its fixed of course.

Achievements were originally intended for people to just play and have fun while earning the extra weapons. Well people took that the other way and got everything grinded in about 30mins. Now this is a fix, people just play and have fun and adds a fun aspect because you never know when your going to get something.

They're just unlocks, not like there upgrades.

I think Valve'll have to do something to the system the way it stands at the moment, personally i don't like it. at all.
but there are people that do like it, so we'll just have to see what Valve decide to do.

I'm liking it so far. Hopefully Valve won't give in to all the whiners. People really have no patience nowadays :(.

I've gotten two items, the sandman and bonk. But I've already had them before, what a waste! If this was using the old system, I'd already have one sniper and one spy unlockable.

this system could really work, only Valve hasn't implemented it fully yet. This is how I'm thinking the final system will/should be

-still get random unlocks
-you unlock weapons more often, hats are rare
-these duplicate items are supposed to have random stat changes for your character, changing their value
-You have the ability to give and trade items

The problem with the system now is that none of the things above are really implemented other than the random unlocks. The items aren't supposed to be so rare, other than the hats. I'm sure valve is fixing the problem right now

People complain about how it was rushed just to get the update out... it was, but this way they have an incentive to fix bugs faster, as EVERY player deals with them. Mass, forced, beta testing... I guess it works :P

I don't know if this would work or not, but maybe keep both in place. You could have the player choose whether he/she will get the unlocks via achievement or via the random playtime. That way people who like the new way can keep what they like, but the people who liked to be challenged and do crazy things to get them can also be satisfied.

Also, please don't lump those who preferred the old way into the category of those who farmed. I enjoyed trying to get the achievements through real game play and I think I became a better pyro and scout because of it.

agreed, TF2 seems to be going down the RPG path, I don't know why they would think of this but it seems they have.

I'm with you properly, I have only farmed 3 achievements, its made me a better player getting the achievements.

I have absolutely no patience for this new weapon system, it does not merit skill, only luck. I hate how I play for the whole day only getting repeat weapons while a player enters the server and one minute later gets one of the new weapons, it is really unfair, and pretty horrible. If valve wanted to stop achievement farming they could just give us the weapons since after all they are supposed to be side grades...
