Google Chrome Operating System ?!

a operating system based soley on web apps might become succesfull but for the corprate world and for media and arts will never work or take over.
 
no but i know how a lot of business works and how the recording studio i work at does things. both are very slow to adopt anything new because reliability is the most important thing to them and they want to see how proven something is before they change to it.

and with recording latency is very important.
 
If it will handle Steam and all my games, then I will use it in a second. The only reason I don't use Linux now is that I never could get my games to run quite right in Wine (but my laptop still runs ubuntu). I really don't like Windows...

So do I my friend...well not recording studios. The simple thing is that if Google is going to make an OS in this stage of the game, it's going to have to support a wide range of programs.

So of course they are starting out with a lightweight OS specifically designed for netbooks. From there they will probably build to a full scale OS. Google isn't going for the business market and would be pretty stupid to try.

I personally Google needs to just stick with the search engine. I think the web browser is kind of a waste of space, and that making an OS based on that browser will just be an even bigger one. But that's just my opinion, I don't really care who uses it.

right off the bat i doubt it will handle steam any better than linux or osx with wine could but who knows google has a lot of money so they might be able to pay of Microsoft for licensing and research for them to build a proper windows api into it but even if the money is there it wont work with the current open source gnu licence agreement that google wants to use. but who knows to take care of the licensing they might switch over to a differnt style of gpl or maybe a bsd style agreement.
 
it's not all a issue of money to google to get these programs to run on there OS it's a issue of MS not wanting to give any one access to what they built a monopoly on and how they maintain it. do you really think that no one tried to license the windows api before to an other OS and do you really think if Microsoft license or sold research to a other company to build a api to use windows apps that they would still keep there tight grip on the majority of the market share.

like i can defiantly tell you that if wine was perfect i would never use windows ever again.

As I said before. They are going for the Netbook market. That is what the new OS is for, not for laptops or desktops. That is why they are touting Google Apps, because it wont need to be loaded on the small Netbooks.

Google doesn't need to worry about Microsoft at the moment.

I've heard that Adobe, Asus and Acer are going to help with the development.

Terrible assumption, no one has even seen the thing yet, and you already know you won't like it? Just a fanboy I presume?

This OS will hinge on being able to do productive things ie. email, web browsing, rss, create/edit .doc files, photo uploading, while being as light and simple as an ipod touch. It needs to make people feel like it isn't an OS at all, but just a thing to launch their favorite activities. Pair it with a 8-10" netbook that has great battery life and a decent keyboard, and I'd be tempted to bite.

Think ipod that runs multiple apps with a full keyboard, and can run on new, small, expensive tech, or old, bulky, lying around tech. Put it on your netbook for on the go, or put it on your grandma's computer and not have to spend every holiday teaching her how to use it.

Fanboy ? There is nothing in his comment that even remotely looks like fanboy talk. He just says if the OS will be like the browser he will not like it.
 
there is no mention of "if" anywhere in the statement. it says that because he hated chrome, google os will not only be bad, but worse. seeing as how no one has even seen the os yet, how else would you describe this besides being a fanboy of some other os?

He's not really saying a specific OS to be better so he's not a fanboy of it.

It'll be for those public computers at librarys just for speed and quick access.
