looking for a good laptop

i am looking for a good laptop that i will be able to keep for at least 4 years. i dont know if you can upgrade laptops like you can desktops so pretty good when i buy it. i am looking for a quad core laptop. not extremely high in price. if anybody can find one where maybe i can customize on the website would be great i cant find any. im looking from a price range of 750-1000 maybe a little over 1000 if its a really good laptop.

well this is the laptop i was thinking because i learned that for what im going to be using my laptop for i could live with a duo core so i was looking at this laptop from alienware

that's a good laptop, yes. Some things to consider when buying a laptop:
-battery life. gaming laptops sacrifice battery life for increased graphics performance. do you need a long battery life? you won't get it with most gaming laptops

-target use. you picked a gaming laptop - is that what this is mainly going to be used for? you can save a lot of money if you get a laptop that's not gaming oriented.

-upgrades. for the most part, when you buy a laptop, what you get is what you;re stuck with. you will not be upgrading anything on a laptop except the memory and maybe the hard drive.

-Operating system. Windows 7 is being released Oct. 22 of this year. If you buy a laptop now, you'll miss out on Win 7 - can you wait a little longer and get the newer OS? (I know a lot of places are offereing win 7 upgrades, but that could be a pain)

I had the M9700 SLI/Raid0. That thing rocked! Don't expect Alienware to have the best battery life. Mine lasted about 45 minutes unplugged and browsing the net. Not much running in the background. Awesome system but I think you can get a better one. AW is a bit overpriced (really overpriced).

you just need to figure out what your going to be doing with it. like in my case i use my laptop at collage, work and around town which are all places that wouldn't ever want do any gameing so it only has a meager GeForce 9400M which is fine with me considering it's use and the fact that i didn't even bother putting windows on it but for general use it works just fine for me it can run all of my web, media, office apps fine and still has juice for pro tools hd and final cut, adobe cs3.

than i have my separate desktop for gaming.

i think this set is way better value for the money because the laptop suits all the needs i want a laptop 2 and has a swell 5 hours battery life when doing general work on it and is nice and compact. then got my desktop which can run all of my games maxed out on a nice big screen and a full-sized keyboard which is a lot more enjoyable for games than a card that just meets your requirements on a small screen with a small keyboard.

well what im usally going to be use this laptop for is like on trips like on the airplane and in the airport with internet i was going to put WoW on it because thats a good game to play like in the airport and stuff and put my video editing program on their and than kyou i never even considered battery life that will definitely something i will look at. but i was also wondering if there was like a website where you can build the website from scratch and they build it for you?

well i think alienware is a good laptop but the when you want to play games a lot. So i get Hp but i think there are better one out there so if i where you i look on site and place is
