Video recording software

Heya all,

I'm planning on making and editing a fraggish movie about Team Fortress 2 - and possibly Call of Duty 4 later - and I want good suggestions as to a software to record it with. I know Fraps, but I don't know how much that will eat up my HDD space seeing as I'll be needing a lot of material to get the best of the best. Fraps is also pretty much the only software I know for this cause.

Source engine's own thingy won't work, last time I did that I ended up with 232 gigs worth of .tga-files in my TF-folder..
Besides, it's gotta work for CoD 4 too.

If you have any great suggestions, I'll love you forever.

There's a free program called "HyperCam 2" but the only limit is, if you use the free version, it'll leave a small, white box on the top left corner that say's "Unregistered HyperCam". Other than that, it's pretty good. GameCam is also good.

FRAPS is one of the best video recorders on the market, you can use the demo for free with all the features of the full one but you only get 60 seconds of recording time. If you buy the full one for I think $37 it gives you everything and full recording time.

I recorded a 10 minute video on CSS with fraps doing 30 FPS recording and yes the file was big but I followed a how to make your video HD tutorial using Sony Vegas and it shrunk it to like 2GB or something like that. If you want I can find that tutorial.

I use Camtasia for video tutorials. It's a great program. They offer a fully-functional 30 day trial.

source recorder is great quality and very very easy...specially since you can setup binds/aliases to record with.
i have one that i can record up to 50 demos with a press of a single button
then you just type startmovie name avi, choose the appropriate codec (xvid mpeg4 is great) and watch your demo, and voila...you have your avi movie with full sound or whatever you want
simple
