Life has many twists and turns. From the days of UO we learned one thing. Some are born sheep, others wolves. Every flock had a few, and even more had the desire. Either you were or you wern't.

Shadowbane was for the wolves. Shadowbane was a haven for us wolves.

No longer did we protect our flocks in UO and EQ and the others. No longer did we find ourselves as the backbone of a ragged core of carebears who rushed towards the finish line of "pvp" like it was a race.

Shadowbane threw out a bone, just one. Kill your enemy, and make them never comeback. Grief them off the server. Sink your fangs into them and shake them apart.

If you never played Shadowbane...you missed out. The quote that held me truly will echo throughout RPG history.

"Without fully unlocked and unhindered PvP & world destruction, you cannot achieve the fullest extent of what it is to roleplay. It is indeed only through PvP that TRUE roleplay can be achieved...when your words can mean the end of not only your current spawn, but the destruction of your city and empire."

I sat there and watched the servers die. I was logged in when they went down. I signed the petition to keep them alive...but now the wolves have no home. The land of legends is gone.

We congregated together and fought amongst one another. Politics between servers, invasions across oceans, sieges fought on forums and at hours that compromise your sanity.

Spies in the enemy guild, misdirected orders to break the summon chain and slow the logistics, scouts to catch the enemy movements, favorable points of engagement, flying warriors to catching the hovering wizards.

Healing targets, debuff targets, rebuff targets, meat management, glass muzzle loaders and the chase of the broken.

I will never again have the same glee in life. I will never again slay my enemy and rejoice as I once did.

Wolves will cross one another in the wild of cyberspace, and we shall cast a wary sensation each way. We will share that silent feeling that raises hairs on the back of our necks; and hope that we can engage.

Now I will lay my foes lives down with regret...for I am no longer fighting other wolves. For I am no longer saited by the slaughter of the lamb. I will whisper in their ear as I hold their life in my hands, the eyes of the weak showing their confusion as I know they do not understand what I speak.

"I remember what it was to hunt hunters, sheep...I remember a land where I could not smell your wool...I remember Shadowbane..."
