Well the i5 and i7 800 chips are out now. From the reviews conducted, they look very very good. Low power consumption and high overclockability. THE i5 AND i7 CHIPS THEY TESTED REACHED 3.9GHZ WITH STOCK COOLING :O beastlyyy
They also feature integrated PCI lanes and such so theres no more northbridge on the mobos, very interesting and cool. Pretty much all the Mobos they tested were SLI/CFX capable and all had around 3 PCI slots, they called them PEG slots.
They are still expensive though :(

Can anyone clarify that when SLI'ed/CFX'ed do they run at x16??? or is it split up into x8/x8

It's split into x8/x8 when you run multiple cards. The PCIe integrated into the CPU is limited to 16 total lanes. So even on the high end EVGA boards with nf200 chips that provide more lanes, all those lanes will still get funneled into 16 lanes. If you're planning on SLI'ing GTX 295s, or GeForce 380's, stick to x58.

ahh yes i just found out before reading this........the thing is, the i7 860/870 seem to outperform a i7 920 and they seem to have a lot more potential. Hopefully the i7 950 prices drop or something or they come out with an i7 in between the 920 and 950.

Simply because they are clocked higher at stock and have higher turbo clock. Clock for clock, they are dead on with the 1366 CPU's.

yes very true......i guess i would think about getting a 1366 CPU instead of the new 1156

Hopefully i will get a i7 920 or whatever is next in the near future.

I hate how everyone is comparing the 1366 920 to the 870! Do people not realize the large price difference between the two? Not to mention the clock difference.

The 860 would be a closer comparison, but you still cant just ignore the fact that the 860 STILL has a higher bclk then the 920. In my opinion, everyone who is releasing these reviews is not doing the 920 justice by keeping it at 2.66ghz rather than OC'ing it. I mean even a stock hsf 920 can get 2.93ghz no problem.

I think the most value lies with the i5, for the average user HT is no big deal. And considering that the i5 has the same "overclockability" as the i7 yet lacks the heat from HT, it will be an amazing cpu given the right cooling solution. I cant wait to get my hands on one of those bad boys so i can put it through its paces...

920's should be clocked to at least 4ghz, which they can do fairly easily. When I get to upgrade, I'm shooting for 4.2ghz.

The i5 is a mainstream processor, the i7 is enthusiast level.

wait do u mean the i7 920 with stock HSF can overclock to 3.9ghz?? because the i5/i7 860/870 get to 3.9ghz on a stock HSF. People have been saying they can get to 5ghz with an aftermarket HSF but im not 100% sure about it. As for the i7 920, they hit 4ghz with aftermarket, idk about stock HSF though, i havn't check. And yes i know it has a different price and clock but its virtually the same price as an i7 860, microcenter actually sells the i7 920 for $200 and the new i7 860 for $220.

Isn't the i7 870 and i7 860 virtually the same except for the clock speeds......if so, then theres no reason to get an i7 870 since you can just clock them to the same speeds and save like 300 bucks

I actually would prefer to get an i7 920 though and hopefully i can in the near future

Sorry but my Core i7 920 @ 2.66 is about tied with an i7 870 @ 2.93 which is sad cause you pay more for the 870 than the 920... OC'ed the 920 smokes 870...

i7 800s... are worthless in comparison to the 900s mainly just allows less TDP but at the cost of Dual Chan instead of Triple...

i5s are core 2 quads with updated tech...

i9s I will expect highly...will I get one, no but I would like to be able to pay for college XD

Too bad Intel just basically dumbed down the i7 900 series for the same price and on a P55 chipset its not worth it compared to a x58 chipset...

Yeah, but remember, we're the minority. Most of the people who own computers know nothing about them. The i5 is still a step up from the mainstream core 2 quads.

All of these processors look good, just wish the motherboards weren't so darn expensive.

The new P55 mobos are still cheaper than the X58, i think you can pick one up for like $120. I wouldn't say the i7 860/870 is a dumbed down version of the i7 900's.......there more for the mainstream even though they are expensive as hell and they are supposedly able to overclock higher than the 900's which basically puts them at the same speed.
