Genetic mutations are common. Though, almost all mutations are fatal, some do provide some sort of genetic superiority over others in one way or another. Unfortunately, not in this case

But most diseases are not there at birth, while its true genitic mutation is the reason we are what we are today as humans. It just seems odd that a more perfect system of reproduction did not evolve. But then again maybe a less perfect one died out.

I think the only bad thing about the story is that the parents would turn away any cure. That's terribly selfish and unfair to the girl who is "doomed" to spend her entire life as an infant.

i can't believe he said if they found a cure for her that they wouldn't use it. that's awefully selfish what's going to happen when they can't take care of her. it's very interesting tho.

It's not that she's not going to die, it's that she doesn't age in the same manner. She probably has a human life span, but does not grow like a normal human.

that's remarkable and really interesting. I'm surprised she made it to age 3 or 4 with the developmental problems she has, never mind 16! I hope some scientists can look at her case and figure out what exactly it is. We may find the gene for aging, but at the same time it looks as though the mystery of immortality is further away. I hope Discovery Health does a story on this without interfering with the family and their lifestyle.
