Logitech mx518. Good buy or not?

I see a lot of sites sell the G5 for $5 - 10 more and that mouse is worth the extra money. But if its a good sale the mx518 is a good mouse as well.

I would say get the G5 if your gonna go with a budget Logitech gaming mouse. Its not much more than the MX518 but its a lot better and comes with a lot more features like weights and such.

I use that mouse always and it has lasted about 7 months so far, I like it. It's not "The Best" for gaming but is fine if you don't need a bunch of stuff that you need to adjust. It's simple sleek and very basic for a gaming mouse but if your looking for something high end, head over to http://www.razerzone.com/. They are the best, even better then logitech in my opinion but if your short on cash and you just need a basic mouse for gaming the MX518 is the way to go.

-.- everyone assumes Razer is the best, sad............they may make decent mice and keyboards but their headsets are pretty bad, well some of them. Logitech G5 has been the gaming mouse choice by many for years and still is. Its known as the best budget gaming mouse so far. Razer is decent and good but they are definitely not the best.
I say great mouse. Had mine for about 2.5 years, if I recall correctly, and only when I dinged it up horribly by dropping on the pavement while moving did I go get a new one, the Logitech G5. Let me say this: I am definitely NOT a fan of the G5 because of the cheap feel I get because of the weight system. Additionally, I use the scroll wheel as an additional button for games, and the scroll wheel has a habit of losing "contact," meaning I'm pressing it down to cook a grenade, and then its thrown while I'm still holding the button down. Does that intermittently. I'll be buying one or two MX518s sometime in my future (2nd as a backup for when the first one kicks the bucket).
Don't get me wrong; the ergonomics of the G5 is great, but these small and VERY noticeable problems makes me hate using this mouse for twitch games like CoD4. Of course, depending on your playing style with the mouse, this problem may not affect you as much as it does for me.

I bought my MX-518 on Oct 15th 2005. It is one of the best purchases that i have every made! I have beat this mouse like a mad man on several gaming occasions and yet it still loves me. I love the feel of it, it the right amount of substance and great curves. I've used it in 8 and 9 hour gaming sessions and my hand only started to cramp a lil after bout 6 hours...lol. I still have the receipt for my mouse that is how i got the date. I dont know what your preferences are yet i can tell you that this mouse has not let me down.

Razer mice definitely look the coolest, and isnt that what really matters? lol
I actually hate the way Razer mice look and feel. While there are a tone of people who love them they for sure aren't the end all-be all of mice.
I have used and abused both mice and while I prefer the G5 (better texture) the MX518 was great as well. The MX518 cost me $25 about 3 years ago so you should be able to find it on sale for at least that nowadays.
Logitech also takes care of you. I broke my G5 due to my own negligence and they sent me a new one with barely any questions asked. I am definitely a fan of their mice (hate the G9 though, ugly and bulky).
I would give the Raze mice a shot simply because everyone's preference and hands are different.

@all i was also looking at the G5. The problem is that im on a budget. Maybe my mom could loan me a few bucks.
Razer has good mouses, but there headsets suck. I also like their keyboards alot.

yes thats the only reason.....they look cool and have blue lights or red lights lol, i hear they feel decent though since they can be used lefty or righty. I wouldn't hesitate trying them but i just hate it when people just go OH RAZER they are the best go with them, because they definitely aren't the best.
I have been very happy with the mx518. I have had the same one since Logitech released the product so like 2003 (6 years!). I recently switched controllers though and sunk some money into the Falcon. But when it comes to mice, I have been very happy with the mx518. Some products may feel a little better to different people but most likely they wont change your game play much compared to the mx518.
That said, I would go in person and see what fits your hand the best, it really makes a huge difference in how happy you are with the mouse.

It sucks if you're like me and live in the boonies. The closest place I could go to actually SEE a gaming mouse is a hundred miles away :facewall:
