Basic computer setup.. something under 300 dollars.. all we're doing on it is lolmicrosoftword nothing crazy and I have an NFR copy of Windows 7 ultimate. Can someone help me build something for my Grandma :)
 
If your looking for a basic setup for your grandmother thatll do word & surf & all the basic jazz, them you should check out craigslist for your area. Unless youre in the boonies there should be plenty of cheap basic computers forsale in your general area. If by some slim chance you happen to be in the Jacksonville FL area I have a spare surfer tower you can have for free.

That would be a pretty good setup for a basic computer with room for expansion, but you might want to get a better case. The really cheap ones typically have cooling problems, meaning the computer runs hotter, less reliably, and often louder as the fans try harder to cool their components.

A decent starter case would probably be either the better entry level antec or cooler master

...personally, if i was getting something that "low end", I would probably just go to best buy or something and get an E machine (or something). Not sure how much of a price difference its going to come out to...

Building your own machine seems to only be cost worthy if your a "higher" end rig. In my experience anyways.
 
Starting price at best buy is atleast 400 dollars. Mind you.. my grandmother doesnt have a job. So I'm helping her.. if it was that "easy" i would of said the same thing and wouldnt have asked 150 dollars is.. 150 dollars.
 
You'd be better off getting a AMD system for her they tend to run about the same price as the stated Intel mobo's and cpu's but the mobo's for AMD tend to have D-sub + DVI and in some cases even HDMI might be a bit much for your grandma but you never know when that little extra can help =P
 
ya thats what im doin im gonna go with the AMD Mobo and cpu. Seems to look a lil better and its 250 so GG :)
