My current setup is:

XP Pro SP3 32bit
Intel Core2 Duo 2.53ghz Wolfdale
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Gskill 4GB PC800 DDR2
EVGA Geforce 9600 GSO 384MB
SeaSonic 460w Power Supply

I want to update my video card for Modern Warfare 2. What do you guys think of this card? Sure there's better cards out there but I've always been about getting the best bang for your buck. Not buying something too cheap/old or too expensive/new. I know when I get a newer video card, I will need to upgrade my power supply too. What do you guys think of this one?

That GPU can play MF 2. No need to play on High though as long as you can play the game. But if your gonna up ur GPU, consider getting a new PSU. IDK if that psu can handle that card. Give it a try though. Whats Your processor?

Oops, forgot to mention my CPU:

Yea I figure I can run MW2 on my current box but I would have to turn everything down. MW2 looks a alot prettier than CoD4 and I would like to run it on med-high settings.

That's a pretty good video card, but for $4 more, you could have the newer 1gb version that benchmarks noticeably higher. I'm just waiting for one of my clients to pay, then I'm ordering one of these for myself also :P.

Yea I saw that one as well but it doesnt have as many reviews/ratings as the VisionTek card. Doubling your video RAM for $5 is nice but then it makes me think that the Sapphire isnt as good of a card.

I was thinking that initially also, but from what I've read, the 1gb is a newer version of the card (probably why there aren't as many comments), and there are several manufacturers selling it in the $145-155 price range. Another thing to keep in mind is that AMD is releasing the Radeon 5000-series within a month, so prices on the 4000-series should go down sharply.

why not pay $40 more and get a 4890 which gets noticeably better frames??
The 4890 gets like 20-40 FPS boost over a 4870 1gb in games like Call Of Duty so it will definitly kill MW2 when it comes out. The only games i see that the 4890 doesn't have a huge lead over the 4870 1gb is in crysis, far cry 2, world in conflict and maybe a few other games.

The 4890 is also a crazy overclocker and when overclocked to about 975mhz core and 1035 memory, they saw something around a 4-9 FPS boost. The ATI 4890 can even overclock to over 1000mhz core and it has bee done by many people, you may need to get an aftermarket cooler though but i believe some have done it on stock cooling.
I understand if you dont have the money then just stick the the 4870, its still a pretty good card.

As for your powersupply just get one from a decent brand that is pretty cheap. OCZ make pretty decent power supplies for a good price after rebate.

OCZ 700w stealthxstream - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7341019&cm_re=ocz_700w-_-17-341-019-_-Product

Asus ATI 4890 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4121308&cm_re=ati_4890-_-14-121-308-_-Product
This new asus 4890 is pretty sick, the new technology it uses along with the aftermarket cooler is supposed to allow it to get some insane overclocks.

Powercolor ati 4890 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4131167&cm_re=ati_4890-_-14-131-167-_-Product
This is the cheapest ati 4890 on newegg so far

sapphire is a good brand, i had a 3870 from them and it was pretty good. too bad my cpu sucked :/

4870 can max out COD4 with no problems at around 80+fps. You will get no less than 40 in MW2.

lol i forgot to talk about the actual card lol
well the 4870 will be just fine for MW2 and pretty much any game you throw at it

i lol'd because the second i push my 4890 over 950mhz core it will crash like every 30min....

ahhh that sucks.....well not every card is the same....maybe get an aftermarket cooler? they will probably help u get a higher overclock.
A review site i read a while ago said they achieved 1000mhz core on the reference one, maybe they got lucky. I've heard of people getting over 1000mhz tho with aftermarket coolers. I dont know if you need to tweak voltages though, you may need to if you wanna get really high.

Thermalright T-rad - http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/t-rad2_gtx/product_vga_cooler_t-rad2gtx.html

Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo - http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_&mID=101

The thermalright is i guess more high end but u will need to buy ur own fans, it comes with VRM heatsinks and such though i believe.
The arctic cooling is the best price/performance and comes with fans but you may need to get VRM heatsinks.

If i put mine at 950mhz core I have to have the fan speed at over 50%. Sounds like an airplane engine on takeoff. I'll pass on the noise for a little bit of an increase in power.

The 9600 can still run MW 2, but on lower settings, that card seems fine but there might be some downside on that card, + the fact that most cards that are in the 4k requires a 500 PSU or more. you can check the requirements of the cards at the ATI/Radeon site.
