Which gpu is better?

The XFX 4890 xxx edition or the gainward 4870x2? does the 4890 xxx beat the 4870x2 just because its new technology or will the 4870x2 beat the 4890 xxx just because it has an extra gpu? Tell me what you would go for and do you have something thats better?

It depends on the game and how it takes advantage of the extra gpu. In theory, the 4870x2 and the 4850x2 are both better than the 4890 due to the extra gpu. You might want to wait until later this month when ATI releases their 5800 series (rumored to be released on the 23rd).

When comparing gpus, this chart seems fairly accurate.

I have a 4830 and so far have had no problems with lag if you wanna spend ~$60

I recently upgraded to the 4870. My computer has no problems with any of my games, easily having over 100 fps in all of them (Bioshock, TF2, L4D, and others). It has the power to play most every game at decent FPS and is at a good price point. I do think that anyone wanting to get one should wait for the new ATI cards to be released though, the price drop should be well worth it.

Personally, I would wait until the 5x00 series is released, and then snatch up a cheap(er) 4890. I'm rocking the 4890 and it is a true beast. It's a far greater value than anything nVidia has to offer ATM.
BTW: I'm not a ATI fanboy. My last card was a GeForce 9600, and I liked it too.

i think its really good what about you guys? and if the 5800s have a 5870 around 180? ill get it but if not ill get this.

The 4870x2 will always be faster than a 4890 in almost all games that supports the dual GPU solution. The 4890 will win in some rare occasions but thats where drivers don't enable the 4870x2 to do its full potential.
You will not be getting either card for under $150, the 4890 is very good for the money though. If you can't afford the 4890 then the 4870 is your other option. I would say try to get a 4890 though or wait for the new ATI 5 series being released on September 22.

Im gonna get a 5870x2 when those come out.

4850 is the better buy than a 4830.......4850 is only like $95, better buy than a 9800 gtx+ which go for like $110

no worries. i have a pny 9600gt oc 512mb at the moment, but it was over heating with stock heatsink. i tried to fix by removing all the stuff off and putting a new fan on and it was better, then i went a little crasier and it overheated when i was playing my games and it had like 1fps. ever since that theres been a few glitches on my desktop when i close the game, like my screensaver dissapears ect... and i overclocked wrong and messed my ram up so my pc is basically slow and i have to put some games on hold like grid and l4d since it crashes when i play.

the 5850/5870 will start at $300 and $400. The ATI 4890 is the way to go if u plan on upgrading, don't go for the 4870, the 4890 is much faster.
