Downloading music illegal?

If they were to find out about it and take action, the suspect would recieve an email and/or "cease and desist" letter from either the record company or their ISP.
If you are not familiar with cease and desist, they basically say stop doing this or we will take legal action against you.
I hope this helps. I don't see how this general information could be against forum rules, addressing this hypothetical situation.

You would first receive a notice from the ISP detailing the download in question and different ISPs have different information contained in that notice.

And this is not discussing piracy, just simply one outcome. I do not see how this condones and promotes downloading.
