Just make sure if it's hard it doesn't have that glossy reflective surface, because that won't work with the optics.

Personally, I use a Philadelphia Phantoms mouse pad I got for free at a game in 2001.

I use a hard surfaced one that came with my Dell XPS, it's got a hard top thats pretty wide and then a soft grippy surface on the bottom.

i was lookin at the razer site..cus i like razer stuff.. and the have both soft which r praised for their speed pads and the control pads great for all types of gaming.. to their hard pads made of some type of composite aluminum that are supposed to be the best pads for FPS gaming... and all the reviews for each say that each is the best... why can't this be eaiser!!

I use one of these.

$18 - it's great on my desk, but it really shines when i'm using my laptop. becasue it's made from anodized aluminum it's metal strong (you could bash a robber in the face with this thing) but it's very light. you can plop it down anywhere and have a reliable mousing surface. dual sided, non-slip, and white is the new black (it comes in black, but i prefer the white)

I use a Ratpadz mousepad. It is the hard style, and is nice and simple.

The XT is the way to go, it rings up at $20, and has free shipping.

I use this

Its Called A desk.....

And when I'm not using my Mac Pro I use my Macbook Pro's Touch Pad

I personally use a Razer Goliathus XL control pad for my G7, had the eXact Mat previously, not a fan, also cloth preserves the mice feet better (or so id assume) over the plastic hard top mats..

I can't believe people use their desk for a mouse pad on their gaming rigs. I would rub the finish right off the desk!

Also, if anyone is worried about rubbing off the feet of their mice, I highly recommend Slick Surf replacement mouse feet. They are smooth, durable, and cheap. Plus he cuts them for your specific mouse. Good stuff.
