Depends, I used to know a dude who had a really nice one in high school and he pulled it off, but if its even slightly haggard looking... your setting your self up for failure lol. My first car was an 88' cherokee and i had that baby looking fresh and clean... until i blew a piston three months later

Old cars are nice, if nothing goes wrong. My first car was about 12 years ago and I bought and old Camaro with t-tops and everything. Eventually I had to end up junking it cause I was only 16 and was spending all my money on gas or to fix the thing up.

If you have the money and the knowledge to fix things if they go wrong, I say run with it and get it, it looks nice.
