Boost Your FRAMES PER SECOND by at least 30!

Here are some launch option Cvar's first though.
-dev -console -novid -dxlevel 81 +cl_showfps

^Just copy it as it is^, open Steam, go to My Games, right click TF2, go to Properties, click Set Launch Options, and paste this into the text box and close it. Run TF2, Exit TF2, take -dxlevel 81 out.(Not necessary really but it'll keep resetting your video options to default for dx81 every time you restart TF2).

And now the config.

//other commands

echo "MaxFPS Config Loaded"

Just save it as mytweaks.cfg and move it into your C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<accountname>\Team Fortress 2\tf\cfg\ folder, and add exec mytweaks.cfg into your autoexec.cfg and save it.

Optional cvar's

mat_showlowresimage 1 Absolutely horrendous textures, but substantial performance increase if you're really hurting for fps.
mat_queue_mode 2 Optimizes engine for multi-core CPUs.
r_threaded_renderables 1 Multi-core CPU optimization
r_threaded_particles Multi-core CPU optimization

you can also make a .txt file in your tf2 files

you call it autoexe or w.e

and ingame it either loads it by itself or you type in your console
"exec [the name of the .txtfile (without .txt)]

its way easier and you can correct stuff alot easier

ask the CS:S squad , every good player in CS:S has his own config

Very helpful!

Thanks for the fps increase guide! I might use it when I have time to do all this.

fudpex, thanks for the post, I am constantly on the look out for boosting fps.

HOWEVER>>>
I would caution anyone from using this or any config that has so many tweaks in it, if you don't understand what every one of them actually does. I have blindly used many tweaks like this in the past and have found my game gets really bugging, crashes, etc. The problem is, there is probably a lot of great tweaks in there, but one or two of them could be problematic for YOUR system.

Again, I think there is good stuff here, but be mindful and if your game gets buggy, back this stuff out.

What would REALLY be great to see is an in-depth treatment of what each one of these tweaks does, what the range of options are for each, how one might affect another, etc.

The easiest way to bump up your fps is to get a better computer. :P
But in all seriousness, good find for those who need the extra fps.
+1
