i was wondering if this is a good PSU, because i would like get a modular one, but i havent heard much about this brand, and its OEM.
opinions please

I'd suggest reading up on this guide. A lot of good info in there, and it will give you a better understanding on what to look for in a quality psu

also the rest of your system specs would help out in determining if that psu can meet the demand. Remember it is not always about the wattage of a psu. I always look at the 12v rail. That psu you listed is supplying 28 amps on two rails. It looks good on paper, and sunbeam is a known name.

Me personally I would go for a corsair nowadays. Single rail psu's kick some ass. Mine is 4 rail psu, but it is quality parts used on the guts. My psu is a early version Gamexstream :)

Been serving me well for 2 years and counting. I mainly use corsair now though. Them psu's are monsters

i have an Athlon II 240, and am getting a ATI HD 5850 for xmas, so i want something that could power that. which it probably could, it has 2x6+2 pins, and is 680W with 2 28A on two rails.

Well I haven't heard much of anything about Sunbeam's power supplies, which isn't a spectacular sign since I try to keep up with computer hardware. It has 78% efficiency which isn't very good (higher electrical bills and heat generation).

Here's the deal. A lot of people really like to skimp on their power supply, trying to get the cheapest one they think they can get away with. They think it's unimportant compared to their powerful video card and processor. Think about it though, your entire PC is connected to that one component. If it fails catastrophically it takes everything with it, or if delivers unstable power it can cause all sorts of confusing and damaging problems. You don't want to roll the dice on your power supply.

If I were buying a PSU right now for a computer with your components I would jump on this power supply. $20 mail in rebate and free shipping from a much more respected manufacturer.

If it comes to PSU's I would recommend Corsair, the quality of their Modular connections is very good and that's THE weakest link when it comes to modular PSU's

well modular are just conveniant if your case doesn't have a cable management system. Modular in theory should be the same as a regular PSU but the problem with them is quality, if they are not high quality then the result is that they won't perform the best.

You should just stick with your OCZ 700w, its fine and if you still really want a modular, OCZ makes a 700w modular also, its called the ModXStream

My Tuniq PSU 1000w has like a million cables lol and i probably use like half of them but my HAF 932 is capable of just tucking them all away behind the mobo tray part where the cable management is. It does well.

Price not a good indicator of quality... but I would be a little afraid of this one.... and with no REAL reviews on Newegg... I would say it is less than popular... I run the OCZ StealthXStream 700W and my wife has the 600W... with how little difference there is in price between the Sunbeam and the OCZ ModXStream, I would stick with what I know to be good... I would get the 700W ModXStream to have extra juice for the 5850... :) but... that is just me... your results may vary.

lol i have that exact PSU right now, the only reason i want a new one is for modular cables

wow i cant afford that, im not made of money lol
but and i will probably end up getting the ModXStream

some people have been saying that the cables on the ModXStream are a bit short, do you think they would reach in my case?
(the cpu connection is way at the top)

how about this one?
750W, 4 12v rails with 25A on each
and its modular,
and its Antec, so it would definitely fit my case.

You should be fine with cable length since your running a mid tower.

DUDE $95!!! just get the PSU i have........Tuniq Ripper 1000w its $170 but its got a $90 MIR!!!!

I mean its more than enough for you lol or probably anyone unless ur running a Quad-Crossfire but the more the merrier. I got my Tuniq Ripper for the exact same price as it is now, $90 after MIR, it runs great, obviously don't use the 1000w but theres no shame in having that much anyway.

If you really want a modular PSU just save your money and get the OCZ ModXStream, the Antec may be of better quality but i don't think it justifies paying that much, its mostly just the brand, Antec PSU usually run for more.
Any PSU will fit in ur case as long as it is ATX.

i meant cable lengths fitting. and the Antec is only 10 bucks more than the OCZ, and its waaay better. i just hope the price stays that low for a while

I would keep it then. Modular power supplies aren't as stable as non-modular ones. Grab a dremel or a drill with a hole saw and cut some holes in your case for cable management. Save yourself $90 for a frivolous upgrade and direct it towards something useful. That's what I did, and my cables are hidden very well.

whoa, calm down! cut holes in my case?! what nonsense is this?!
Im just fine with my case the way it is, and i will just save my money for somethin else.

ahh didn't really compare the prices, yes i know antec PSU are better, thats probably why they are more expensive in general.
And yea, theres really no point in you upgrading to a modular as the PSU you have is fine, just figure out a way to tuck the extra cables away, zip ties?

Oh yea......take a look at these leaked benchmarks of the ATI 5870

http://www.dvhardware.net/news/amd_radeon_hd_5870_leaked_benchmarks.jpg

EPIC!!! imagine now the frames a 5870x2 will put out or a 5850x2 if they decide to make one of those again.

wow
beast mode activated? lol
and a slave HDD, not in raid. i dont want to learn how to do that yet. and ill just put files and stuff on it, Vista (soon to be Win7) will boot off the HDD i have now
